For the amount of rain we had and the warm temperatures the groomers did an amazing job getting the skate deck back in shape! Did the 6 k and was actually very good and did I mention fast? But a controlled fast. Thanks again groomers for doing a fantastic job! Used B skis but had good cover. Some grass popping up on the special k but easily avoidable. Would not recommend classic skiing until we get more snow unless you venture into the world of klister!

Grooming [ Trails Open: Partial, ]
|
Tonight we worked on restoring the 5K and Special K trails. Weather damage was compounded by deep footprints from some people walking their dogs down the trails, while they were closed, during the warm-up. Multiple runs with the Ginzu knive set shallow, yielded a pretty smooth skate deck with some corduroy, however it's very bumpy as the base follows the contours of the ground. The classic track set back on Dec 19 is about 70% intact, and is icy. We can't reset a track until we get more snow. We did not get onto the 8K. We'll be open 8-8 again, beginning Tuesday Dec 31. I suggest B-skis, rock skis if you have them. I also discourage visitors from using our rental classic skis right now; our fishscale bases will find little grip in the existing classic track. Skating will be fast! Happy 2025, Think Snow?

At 3pm today it was 40 degrees at Snowflake! We still have good coverage (photos), but it is wet, slushy, granular snow over ice. Our grooming plan is to remain closed on Monday, and allow this coverage to dry/drain and freeze. We'll see if we can lower the knives and create a skiable deck on Monday night. Think Snow.

24 hours of rain and warm temps have turned the trails to slush over thin ice. More drizzle happening right now. Snowflake will remain closed Sunday.

A week of decent skiing ended today, with the arrival of rain and warm temps. Snowflake is closed today and Saturday due to wet conditions. We will assess trail conditions on Sunday, and see if the remaining base is skiable.

Per Snowflake instagram, trails are closed today and tomorrow to give the best chance to preserve the base. Cheers to the groomers for this past week of great skiing!

Skied all of the 6k and the last 3.5k of the 8k. Classic tracks are holding up well considering all of the traffic. 6 or 7 of the lights are having a party out there so if strobe lights bother you, be warned. There are ski boot tracks right down the middle of the skate deck on a good chunk of the 6k. It isn't terrible at all but they did punch through in a few spots. If you see someone doing that kindly remind them to stick to the side of the trail.

I skied all trails (except Hovland's Hill and the biathlon bump out). It's wavy gravy early season ski trails out there but 100% coverage and lovely - classic tracks were great! When skiing the 8k be a little cautious on the downhill after Check Pulse (I felt like I was waterskiing a bit with the bumps at the bottom - kinda fun!). Also the hill after Emily's Ellipse into Tim's Turn is quite bumpy. An enjoyable ski for sure, 10/10 would recommend you all get out there!

Bumpy conditions through both the 6k and 8k loop that challenged my poor technique. 6k coverage is very good. 8k was less used so it was soft in places and has more debris and some spots with big pot holes down to the ground. I marked B skis, but it's probably fine unless you need your trails pristine.

Shockingly great. Wavy skate deck but 100% coverage. A couple twigs here and there that I tried to flick off. Hopped in the classic tracks a few places. They said that they weren't full depth but it was pretty darn close! No ground poking up in the tracks either. There were a couple spots where the tracks were set really far off to the side and my outside pole would punch through. Only skied the 6k but what I could see of the 8k it looked like very similar conditions. Kudos groomers!
