Groomed north side trails again, things turned out great! Looks like good skiing should continue through the week yet!

So many miles of trails! With Bear Cub and Ox Cart trails now beautifully groomed, in addition to the core trails around Bearskin Lodge -- the variety is back! Challenging trails and easier trails, climbing and flats. The shade from the deep woods protected most areas in spite of the warm March sun. I skied until about 3:30 pm and while the trails were getting slower, the cover was untouched. Summer Home Road and Campground grooms were freshened up today, keeping those in perfect condition (but losing the frolicking moose tracks that decorated Summer Home Road yesterday afternoon!).

Fantastic! When we heard Bearskin groomed this morning we packed the car and headed north. Skied all afternoon on skin skis which were perfect in spring conditions. All the trails we skied were freshly rolled with very nice tracks. Beaver Dam trail had a small section that was newly rolled but the tracks were not new and had fresh snow in them. As we "broke trail" on the old tracks we started to stick but fortunately we had a spray with us to quickly apply to the skins and then we were good to go for the rest of the afternoon. Love this trail system - nicely built, well laid out, great maps and grooming. Thank you!

Minnesota Ski Season is not over! Recovery from last week's melting conditions and raiin is well underway. We skied yesterday starting at Bearskin Lodge and found the core trails surprisingly skiable. We skied the same core trails today and found perfect ski conditions. Where the groomers haven't been able to really work the snow the base cover is still solid, but icy. We were sorry to miss some of the best climbs because of ice, but they'll be back! Fresh snow was falling as we finished our day.

Grooming Scheduling

We groomed Logging Camp, Red Pines, and Deer Mouse on the north side and Ridge Run, Upper Beaver Dam, Moose Pasture on the south side. Bearskin groomed several sections on their half as well. Definitely spring skiing conditions right now after the rain and warm weather over the weekend, but trails mostly held up very well. The north side trails groomed up great. The south side trails are getting thin. We had to lift our tiller in several locations on Upper Beaver Dam and Ridge Run where rocks have started poking through and bare spots are present. Still very skiable but keep an eye out for those locations. West-End Logging Camp, which is our rockiest trail, and Wolf Point are both currently closed due to excessive protruding rocks and frozen flooding. As long as we can groom, we will continue to until the end of the month. Our grooming will cease on March 27th. Bearskin will groom until April 1st.

After rain yesterday, the Bearskin Lodge groomer timed the set up last night perfectly for fast, smooth trails this morning. Some bare spots, a little dirt and some ice on the lakes, but all easily avoidable and made for fantastic spring skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the north and south side trails this morning: Logging Camp, Red Pines, Moose Ridge, Cross Fox, Deer Mouse, Wolf Point, Upper Beaver Dam, Ridge Run, Moose Pasture. Warm weather the last two days knocked things down a bit but we had plenty of base to get a great skate deck and classic track in. We also groomed North-South Link across Flour and Aspen lakes, but being those are snowmobile groomed, we could only get a the skate deck in. No classic track is set on that trail. Overall, expect good, fast conditions. Ice on the trail should be minimal to non-existent as the tiller made great work of that. Do be careful on the roads and parking areas though.

Beautiful day skiing the Gunflint trails. Did about 30k around the north, middle, and a bit of the south sections. Everything was in great condition!

Groomed everything fresh again this morning. We received about an inch of snow yesterday and it mixed in very well with the firm base.

Enjoyed our last morning at 6:45 for a beautiful beaver dam, upper ridge and moose pasture ski. Also skied Saturday night at sunset. Amazing conditions. Fantastic grooming. A lot of snow up there to be skied.
