Trail Detail
Notes
A couple of good loops, although it seems to get more wind-blown than other metro trails. New in 2013, 5K snowmaking loop.Trail Reports

The whole course of manmade snow is in pretty good condition. The usual sugar/sand on the hills but nothing terrible today. Happy to have this cooler weather, but would love some more natural snow.

At my 3:30 pm start, it was about 12 degrees, sunny with squeaky cold snow. Also, sugar covered the trail in the usual spots. Between that and the cold snow, I didn't move very fast until the final leg down from the top of Scenic Foothils where I was only held up briefly by the sugar on the Frog Town and Star climbs. There was no snowplow wake on the Boulder Ridge downhill. Only got crowded on a couple of the climbs where the faster skiers passed me by. At 72 I suppose I have to expect that. Thanks again groomers.

This was my first time skiing since last week's rain. I was surprised with the quality of the snow and grooming. The tracks were solid and there was not any issues with ice.

It was 21 degrees and the sun was shining through a light overcast when I started at 1:50 pm. Yay! Sugar was moderately heavy on all the climbs but not as bad as yesterday afternoon. On the other hand, downhills were fine - no exposed boilerplate. Modest snowplow wake on Boulder Ridge that I easily skied through. Great work once again groomers.

By later in the day, the holiday traffic had left the snowmaking loop in fair to good condition. There was heavy sugar on the climbs amd the snow on the Boulder Ridge downhill and the early part of the Scenic Foothills downhill on the return had been swept down to boilerplate. There was moderate skier traffic at my 2:45 start.

Fast conditions today on the rails, but the deck was quite sugary when I found the rails too steep or I needed to pass another skier (or when I stepped out to let someone pass me). All in all, it was great to be out. On skin skis.

Great conditions this morning at Hyland, across both classic and skate. Classic tracks were deep, solid, and fast, and even with the expected ice there was still enough fluff to get a grip on the longer and steeper uphills. The lower temps and most recent grooming really helped maintain a fast and high quality skate deck, as conditions remained good while the number of folks on the trails crept up at daybreak. Many thanks to the groomers for their fantastic work!

Kudos to the groomers at Hyland as they did miracles with the trail overnight. Mother nature helped with the cold temps but the skate deck was firm and fast this morning. The classic tracks were in incredible conditions and blistering fast on the downhills.
