Skate skied the man-made loop at Hyland Lake Park. Scenic Foothills and Boulder Ridge are closed. The conditions were firm and fast. The grooming was excellent. There were quite a few other skiers out making the most of what could be one of the last days of the season.

Surprisingly good this morning all things considered. Closed beyond Frogtown, but what's open is still quite good. Not sure how they do it but the trail crew has done some amazing work this year!

Some of the fastest snow of the season! The snowmaking loop was in very good condition - only a little frozen corduroy or ice on the first Scenic Foothills outbound climb and towards the top of the first climb of the Scenic Foothills return. Only corn was towards the top of the Boulder Ridge climb and the bottom or start of the the 1st Scenic Foothills return climb. Otherwise it was wonderfully fast snow with just a modest bit of moisture. I did my personal best for the season, an 8 mph pace that I wasn't sure I would see again at 72. There was hardly anybody there when I arrived; more showed up as I was leaving. Thanks to the groomers and Three Rivers for keeping this great skiing going.

My last day at Hyland yesterday? The entire snowmaking trails were open, groomed and mostly clean. It was glazed over until about 11am when it started to thaw and soften. Very slick and fast on the downhills. Thanks groomers for a great season!

The snowmaking loop was in good to very good condition at my 11:05 am start. It was 34 degrees according to Google and sunny. I found it was largely frozen corduroy with softer corn in the few spots that had caught a lot of sun by late morning. I didn't like it but adjusted to it and, even though I skied much of the Boulder Ridge downhill in a partial snow plow for fear of catching a corduroy rut - I didn't, ended up doing my fastest lap of the season. The groomers need to be congratulated for taking the challenge of a 40 degree temperature drop that easily could have made the trail into a skating rink and grooming it into very acceptable conditions. I'm looking forward to Wednesday morning.

I went out late afternoon/early evening. Trails were soft as expected but it was still pretty clean all things considered. Only two spots of ground, and one was small and the other was at the top of boulder ridge so easily avoidable. Shaded areas remained glazed/icy while majority of the trail was slushy, but not too beat up. Overall great for the weather, but definitely late spring conditions.

I arrived at 9:30 AM. The snowmaking trails were quite icy. A skier was just coming in from doing a loop and gave me a thumbs down signal and said, "Not good!" The snow was making a horrible grinding noise as her skis went over it. I decided to wait for the snow to soften. At 10:30 AM another skier described the conditions as "treacherous." I waited till 11:30 to try it again. It was still very icy. I made it around the Star Loop and decided that discretion is the better part of valor. Although I chose not to continue, there were quite a few skiers making the most of the skiing.

Rock solid on the skate deck this morning, but just soft enough to get an edge. I avoided the big downhills and stuck close to Frog Town because it was difficult to make sharp turns at speed given the conditions. But after an hour or so, the deck was beginning to soften up quite a bit. Great skiing all around, another fantastic job by the grooming team.

Very nice at 9:30 am. Slushy by 11am. Grooming was well done. Highly recommended. Tracks were fast and icy.

The snowmaking loop was in good condition at my 9:20 am start. It was mid 30's and sunny. Snow was pretty fast allowing me to finally get back to the faster pace I had been enjoying prior to the early in the week snow storm. The snow was generally pretty cold with frozen corduroy or little ice chunks occasionally. It was moderately rutted on the Willow Creek and Scenic Foothills outbound climbs and the Frogtown inbound climb. Boulder Ridge downhill was in great shape. Skier traffic was pretty light.
