Groomed late morning with some success. Most of the lower areas are wind blown and very little snow stuck on the trails. Tracks were blown in shortly after being set. Upper Loops retained more snow and are better skiing. Cowabunga is icy.

I skied all of the snowmaking loops this afternoon between 3 and 5 pm. The trail was soft in most places but not nearly as much as I feared. There were a couple of patches of ice at low spots on the Tree Loop but they weren't a big deal. Overall I was impressed how good the trails were, and thanks to the groomers for great trail maintenance!

How can the trails be this nice after the last week's weather? The manufactured-snow trails are firm, fast and fun! Very little dirt or tree leaves and only hints of any ice. The classic tracks are not set deep but are firm. The trails were starting to soften slightly by 10 am.

Trails were in great shape, and few people out this morning. A thin soft layer on top slowly gave way to ice as the sun hit, making pole plants, edging and cornering a bit dicey in some spots. Skate and classic both in good shape. Natural snow trails are all dirt.

Your lawn may be brown, but the snowmaking trails at Battle Creek are still white. The thaw-freeze has left the deck fast and sometimes glazed, but there's no glare ice. The groomers have done a great job; can't complain about a few iffy stretches on March 1st. The base looks deep almost everywhere, so get out there and ski!

Nice conditions for skating however there are numerous footprints on the pond loop and in the stadium. I had never seen this amount of foot traffic before but I soon realized that it was as a result of numerous persons (adults and children) running around with kick sleds. They were everywhere, including going against the direction of the skiers and in the classic tracks. Disappointed Ramsey County Parks is providing these sleds at their rental facility and encouraging their use.

Crisp and fast but not icy. Great coverage all over the artificial snow loop. There were a few leaves on the backside of the upper loop, particularly on the hill after the hairpin turn on the north side, but otherwise a perfect trail. The groomers did a wonderful job resetting the trail after this warm and sloppy past week! I skated this morning but observed that the classic tracks were clearly firm and deep aside from a few thinner sections too.

Trails recently groomed and tracks set as of 10AM. Anything in full sun was mashed potato, but shaded areas were quite icy. Tracks provided really nice glide. Edges of classic track were very soft, so had to be careful going on downhill curves not to fly off. Overall great ski.

Some lights are currently out at the Battle Creek Winter Rec Area on the machine-made snow trails. The affected sections include: half of the pond loop (from the end of the parking lot by the porta-potty to the maintenance building), Winthrop Ridge, Winthrop Extension, Cowabunga, and the west side of the upper tree loops. Please be aware of this when planning your visit to the area.
