Mt. Ashwabay Ski Trails
Bayfield, WI
Trail Length: 40k  Maps: | 1 Ski Lift , 1 Jerry Jolly
Groomed: Skating/Classical    Lighted: No Snowmaking: No
Contact: 715-779-3227    Weather: [ NWS ]
Notes:   A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Skate course was in very good condition. There is 1-2" of groomed corduroy over hard pack and ice. Occasional tree debris from the wind last week. Even a shallow classic track set, klister needed. Thanks to all the groomers for such fantastic conditions again this season!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Stevve and Bob groomed the bottom of Anchor, Dog Trail and Jolly Long. Set tracks on Anchor, Sugarbush, top part of Dog Trail, and Telford. There was 3-4 inches of new snow which help a lot but it's still a mixed bag at best. There are some spots with glare ice, some sticks, and dirt hiding under the new snow. Mixed in with the bad stuff there is some good snow to be skied. So skier beware, use rock skis if you must get in one last ski at Ashwabay this year.

Skied Sugar Bush and Jolly Long classic trails. Snowclad trees, late afternoon sun and freshly groomed tracks - what more could one ask. A few minor thin spots and even fewer icy spots. Overall, great conditions. Thanks to the groomers. Mt. Ashwabay is the place to be for some late season awesome skiing.

With 6 inches of new snow, we groomed and tracked all the trails, except for Raven, and Deerpath from Raven to Black Bear. Everything we groomed looked to have good coverage, but I'm guessing is a little soft. With cool temps tonight, it should firm up nicely. Happy Skiing!

Arrived at Mt Ashwabay around noon to take advantage of their 2 for 1 Birkie bib offer and were not disappointed. Lake Effect snow showers turned the trails into a winter wonderland, something we Twin City skiers have not seen in far too long. We classic skied Seagull, Sugarbush and had great tracks sometimes hard to see with the heavy snow. Kudos to Scott and the Ashwabay grooming crew! Well worth the drive from Cable.
