Is your trail half groomed or half ungroomed? Only the upper loop of Chester is groomed from the downhill lift towards the lake. The groomed trail is in good shape, ice flow at the far hairpin corner, stay right and you can glide over it. Classic track is set and firm but icy. The trails from the parking lot to the top of the hill are not groomed and covered in foot traffic. Some exposed rocks, but skiable. Skip the first difficult loop to the right. The downhill is in full sun and didn't hold up well. Soccer field is not groomed but you can crust ski the whole field. I skied into the dark because it was so enjoyable! Get out while you can!

We had about 2 inches of snow last night after the rain, and the City groomer was out at 1 PM today, so I got to skate ski on pristine groomed trail. I stayed on the upper part of Chester, and it looked like not all the system was groomed yet. Good skate deck with some occasional crusty patches from the frozen rain, and a semi frozen puddle at bottom of one of the loops. Classic track nicely set, but down to ice and some ground in spots. Thanks to the CIty groomer for continuing to groom.

A beautiful 2 inches of fresh snow on a firm base makes the uphill climbs a bit harder and downhills a bit more forgiving. As usual, a fantastic ski on a fantastic trail perfect for hill reps! Friendly reminder that dogs are not allowed on the ski trails.

Chester has great skiing. They groomed Sunday morning, right as the snow stopped. Thank you City Groomer! Good classic track and skate lane. Unfortunately, some dog walkers were walking (or running) their dogs out there today. I respectfully advised them of the rules once snow is on the ground, and groomed! (The walking trail is snowshoed in for them).

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Went for a quick classic ski this morning! Tracks were generally in good condition, icy in some spots and a bit of occasional debris. Given the winter we're having, I was happy with it! The sunrise over the lake didn't hurt either.

Brisk morning skate ski at Chester this morning. Found it narrow and B ski conditions, very soft in parts. Overall pretty decent conditions. Piston Bully groomer pulled up as I was headed out.

Not groomed but still fun to get out! If I had known the conditions I probably wouldn't have gone, but I wanted to get out and have some fun and fun I did have. Now I know Chester is a better trail system to go when it's groomed lol - quite steep and not much cushion if you fall. Cold weather made for fast conditions even without grooming. The ski hill is open for downhillers and they looked like they were having a great time!
