2016-2017 season

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
In the 6 a.m. hour, the snow was light and fluffy as from a January storm. Nearly 3 inches of the delightful stuff! I did a quick loop as I saw the trail markers and signs were still up, but I didn't find any range balls this time. Follow the markers, but please stay off tees, greens and other sensitive areas.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Snow is thin, and often bare grass. Also large sections of ice. Trails are groomed as best as possible given limited snow.

Poor conditions sure, but skiable. Some sections of exposed ice and grass but only a couple short bits one can't slide over. Kudos to the groomers for making the trails recognizable. Where there is snow, 98% of trail, the edging is quite good, even with hard ice underneath. Use rock skis but I didn't hit anything that would cause damage. Decent skiing if you are desperate. The few classic skiers out at midday seemed happy to be on snow as well.

Poor. Figured I would save driving to the snowmaking loops and try Hiawatha. The groomers did go over the course (thank you!), but it is still largely grass except for where there are thin layers of snow covering bullet-proof ice from the melt down.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Groomed Hiawatha tonight. The coverage is too thin for a classic track, but the skate and multi-use trails are in decent shape. There are various wet spots and grassy spots to avoid. Rock skis. Please remember that skiing is on the left trail and multi use is on the right side of the markers. We are working on more signs. The multi-use trail is for walkers, hikers, bikers and skijorers. MPRB police are ticketing for off-leash dogs at Hiawatha. Many thanks from Hiawatha Skiklubb!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
We rolled Hiawatha this morning and coverage is thin. We started at 6am when there was about 1.5 inches of snow on the ground, and the trail should pick up more snow with what's falling and what blows in.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Great classic tracks throughout, however, the tracks are very noisy in this freeze-thaw cycle! I like the way this year's trail goes up the berm for a spell, however, I miss skiing closer to the lake on the 11th fairway (as opposed to hugging the driving range fence).

Kudos to the grooming crew! Really nice conditions this morning. The newly widened trail side was really easy to skate. The classic tracks were surprisingly good. There are areas where the wind has scoured the trails but avoiding the few icy / grassy areas was easy. I used good skis without problem but would recommend B skis.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Widened the ski trails, dropped/reset classic tracks, and groomed the walking trails. All in all in good shape. Some areas are close to grass, but otherwise in pretty good shape. Skiers use the trail on the left, walkers use the trail on the right. Please stay on trails so we don't ski over tee boxes or greens.

Freshened up and widened the skate deck at Hiawatha. There are a few areas with ice or grass popping through, but Hiawatha looks as good as it has looked in many years.
