2015-2016 season
Reports 11 to 20 of 24    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
I skated at Highland about 9 am this morning. I was happy to see the groomer out and had great balance on fresh corduroy. The south trail was a bit icy and there were a few dirty spots but I didn't see any rocks and overall the trail exceeded my expectations. Would recommend B skis. There were shallow classic tracks down to grass in many sections.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Skate better than classic.
Skate tracks were present most of the trail but uphills they were worn down. A bit crusty due to a warm day yesterday and the cold temps today but still pleasant enough conditions overall for a ski.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Ungroomed. Classic tracks are mixed.
The trails are ungroomed after today's snow, but there are well-defined skier-made classic tracks. Conditions vary considerably, ranging from poor to good. Not much grass poking through, but plenty of places where it's covered by a thin layer of icy slush. Still, better than a few days ago. The skate track looked slow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Better with the small dusting.
The bit of snow from Wednesday night and Thursday morning made for improved conditions at Highland 9 on Thursday morning. The skate deck was nicely refreshed, and the classic tracks received just enough to cover some of the worst grassy spots.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Still decent for skate, not as great for classic.
The skate deck was showing some grass through here and there, but I was still able to get in a good ski without getting stopped in my tracks by catching grass or dirt. Classic tracks continue to show more grass here and there and are not really skiable. Skier-made tracks are in better shape.

Grooming
Conditions: Showing some wear.
Grooming will unfortunately be suspended until more snow arrives.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Getting Thin - Grass Starting to Show.
Highland 9 Hole is starting to get thin with grass showing in many spots on the classic tracks and even some spots on the skate deck.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Freshly groomed this morning. Skate surface in good condition with grass showing in many places, but easy to avoid. Classic tracks mostly fair to poor, it seemed like most striders were opting for skier-made tracks.
My first time at Highland this year, was the first skate skier out after the groomer, not bad at all considering the thin snow cover.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Fair to good skating and classic.
The Highland 9 was packed and tracked today. Coverage is mostly good, but thin in areas. Tracks are good for over half of the course, but exposing bareground elsewhere. Overall decent skiing!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Trail rolled, but no tracks set.
Decent skier set tracks did the trick. Overall soft conditions, sticks and assorted debris a minor issue. Wouldn't recommend A skis.
