New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Finish grooming the remaining classic trails today. Lower section of DeerPath and southlower sugarbush. Attempted to comb skate lanes on Buzz but base was hard and crumbly. Results were less than ideal and efforts were abandoned. Thursday morning grooming scheduled if conditions allow.

All Mt. Ashwabay dual use (wider skate/classic) trails were Piston Bully tilled over the weekend after 15" more snow, and narrow classic only trails groomed via snowmobile and Ginzu (except two very short spur trail segments). 3.5-4 foot packed base and 4-5' in the woods. All are in excellent shape (some classic only tracks on the south side of the mountain are thin in spots due to sun exposure, but the north side tracks and all PB'd dual use are deep and firm). Some of the best skiing of the year! Trails will be groomed into April.

Mt Ashwabay got hit with a ton of snow again. Easily two feet and some epic drifts. The snowcat, Harold was working hard leveling and getting the skate trails smooth and skiable again. BooBoo Bearcat worked on the classic only trails and there are now tracks on Abbey Road, the lower Sugarbushs, Oppedahls, Anchor, and Seagull. More to come as we continue to pack and pack and drag.

4-6" of fresh snow. Last night and today. All the trails were groomed today. The classic only trails were first flat dragged then ginzued tracked. They turned out beautifully. All skate combo trails were ginzued with the two tracked Toyotas. Enjoy this. It won't last long, Spring is near.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All the skate lanes were freshly groomed today. Skid Road, and Seagull to the Summit were hit twice and came out with the best product. Jolley Long was very hard ice pack and not easily groomed. Be careful of icy conditions. The classic tracks have net been set in a few days and are likely fast in the early mornings and softening as the temps warm.

Freshly groomed. Great corduroy and tracks. Conditions were great mid-day but slowed quickly with the warm sunshine.

All the trails were groomed today. The classic only trails were first flat dragged then ginzued tracked. They turned out beautifully. The Skate combo trails, Skid Road, Northern Lights, and the buzz were ginzued with the 2 tracked Toyotas. The Snow Cat, "Harold", was out working on Anchor, Seagull, Abbey Road, and Jolly Long today.

First classic skied the perimeter trails (Sugar Bush, Jolly Long, Oppdahl, Northern lights Deer Path), the single track trails were recently groomed, but not firm, so there was a lot of sinking as we strided. Still beautiful. Tracks were firmer on the combined classic/skate trails. Skate trails that had been recently groomed were firm. The rest were soft.

Classic skied 32 km this morning. Absolutely gorgeous conditions and spectacular weather! Classic tracks were firm and deep, glide was awesome, kick good with skins. Skate deck was firm with some give. Felt amazing! Thank you groomers! And thank you for your consistent grooming all season! My Classic Birkie this year was 3:56. My fastest by almost 20 minutes. I was able to do that because you put in hard work grooming and gave 35-40 km of trail options with a multitude of terrain and hills. I know I can improve. Next year I'm buying a season pass here again and working on a 3:30 Birkie! Have a good spring.
