Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Fresh 8-10" of snow up at Ashwabay this morning when groomers went out. All the trails were double flat dragged and tracks were set on Abbey Road, Seagull Skate, Skid Road, Jolly Long, Northern Lights and Sugarbush. Temps got too soft to finish the classic trails.

Thursday Mt Ashwabay had 8-12" of fresh, fluffy snow. Skate/Combo Trails were cleaned up everywhere with Harold, the snowcat, except for the section of Abbey Road between the tin shed and the cabin. That area was done with Hi Ho 4 Runner and again with BooBoo BearCat Snowmobile and could be a little softer. Tracks were also reset on the Buzz with HiHo 4 Runner and they are smooth. The classic trails had to be double packed with the snowmobile and flat dragged before setting tracks and not all areas were completed. Groomed trails include: Deer Path, BlackBear, Sugarbush, All skate trails Conditions are excellent! the best skiing of the year.

All the classic and skate lanes were groomed today after about 6" of beautiful white fluky snow overnight. Come and enjoy. These conditions won't last long!

Groomed Sunday. Excellent conditions Sunday and Monday with full depth, solid tracks and solid pole plants. Debris was not a major issue. Conditions were very fast and fairly glazed Sunday, and then a thin layer of fresh snow Monday slowed the tracks and made the downhills more manageable.

Conditions and weather are still amazing. I planned a shorter ski... whoops, I had to take advantage of the situation. Classic skied the same 40 km, 2 hours 24 minutes. Tracks are still solid, fast, reliable, with great kick and super glide. Skate deck is firm, with some give from the warming weather. You can't beat these conditions. I promise that's the last longer ski before the Birkie. Thank you groomers!

Gorgeous weather and prime conditions! Classic skied about 40 km this morning. The conditions just fed onto a fun Birkie trainer: Anchor, up Anchor big hill, Seagull connector, Abbey Road past the cabin, Sugarbush, Skid Road, Jerry Jolly, up big Anchor hill, Seagull connector, Abbey Road past cabin, Northern Lights, Buzz, Rollercoaster, Powerline, upper Anchor, Jerry Jolly, Abbey Road, up Seagull connector, upper Anchor, Powerline, middle connector, Anchor to finish. Tracks are phenomenal on combi trails: firm, great kick, glide was super fast with violet mix with red swix- I didn't even scrape. Skate deck is firm corduroy. That should be my last bigger ski before the Birkie... thank you groomers for getting me ready for number 5!

Classic skied 29 km, 1 hour 28 minutes. The snow is fairly fast today. Included some great hillclimbs, downhills, and double poling. Conditions are fabulous. In most places tracks are firm, medium deep, good kick, great glide. Skate deck is firm. Sugarbush trails have inconsistent tracks, and softer feel. Buzz tracks zigzag in areas. I'm excited. With the weather forecasted, it should be an awesome weekend of xc skiing! Thank you groomers!

DeerPath and Black Bear were groomed today. Had trouble breaking through crusty layer left from the rain we got earlier this week. The tracks did not set well on the first part of DeerPath. The entire skate combo system was done with the snow cat. It took all day to bust through the ice but the trails are in great shape.

Classic skied 40 km of trails this morning. Including double Jerry Jolly, Anchors and hills, Northern Lights, Rollercoaster, Powerline, Sugarbushs, Skid Road, Abbey Road, Seagull Connectors, and Buzz. I wasn't going to ski that much but the conditions were picture perfect for the weather we've been having. It wasn't too icy, even powdery in areas. Tracks were solid everywhere I skied: kick was pretty good, glide was mach speed fast, downhills were reliable in the tracks, hillclimbs were kickable most everywhere. The skate deck was firm for herringboning. Thank you groomers! Definitely a super fun, fast meditative ski! Hopefully, we don't get too much rain.
