Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 23 to 32 of 54    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Monday, January 30, 2023
Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All the trails were groomed for skating today. Fresh cord throughout, including both the Bill Barry and Cheri Uelmen skills parks. A hundred meters of new track were set in the Stadium, otherwise no new tracks were set. They are washed out near the chalet and have oak leaves scattered almost everywhere due to the wind.

The skating deck on almost all the trails was groomed this morning. The deck is firm and good. The classic tracks were not set and they are washed out near the chalet and have long sections of oak leaves everywhere, making classic skiing difficult.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Tower Ridge got a full groom yesterday including track set. We got about an inch of fluff overnight. The classic skiing was a little slow today because of the new snow but still a good ski! The grooming plan is to touch up the skate lane in the morning. It should be a great weekend to ski Tower Ridge. With the cold, the heated chalet will be more appreciated!

It appears all the trails were groomed yesterday and tracks set. No sign of the groomer this morning to work in the 1" of new snow we received overnight. But the skating is great if you don't mind an inch of snow over a firm base. As someone said, "Good time to work on your V2." Where the classic tracks have been skied in they are good.

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The Track-Truck groomer was working this morning and as of noon about 50% of the trails have been groomed for skating and classic. The couple of inches of snow we've received in the last two days groomed nicely into pretty firm cord. Skating left some indented tracks on the fresh cord, but not deep.

Firsthand: Both Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Eau Claire County reported today that their groomer is broken, so no new grooming on the 3/4" of snow that fell today. But the skating is very good: medium speed and total edge control. The classic tracks are firm and kickable with very little debris. Groomng plans: The County says they will be grooming for the weekend.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Packed and tracked, skate deck was fairly firm. Classic tracks set and in good condition. Dipsy Deaux is in much better shape than the last time I traversed it; hardly any debris, considering, and I can safely say good skis for all trails at Tower.

Some of the skating decks were groomed yesterday for the Kickin' Kids last night. They have gotten a lot of use and the cord is mostly gone. The conditions are firm but not hard. The classic tracks were last set on Friday and are good but getting washed out on all the trails near the chalet.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Both the skating deck and classic tracks were in great shape, even though they held a race there this morning. Trail was groomed yesterday. We were so lucky to get that 5" of fresh snow on Thursday. A great today to be out there.

Both groomers were working the trails this morning. All trails were groomed and tracked. The skating deck's fresh cord is a bit soft in certain areas, but overall quite good. The classic tracks were mostly deep and clean, but especially on the "I" loop the tracksetter wobbled.
