Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic

Skate lanes touched up and fresh track set on most of the system. The old Ivey snow tends to set up very hard, but groomers are trying to keep them skiable. Plenty of base to work with.

All trails freshly groomed both skate and classical tracks. Plenty of snow base with tilled up surface for good edging and classical kick. Fun skiing today.

Glazing from yesterday's drizzle was tilled into the skate deck. A portion of the track was reset, and the rest will be finished tomorrow. Conditions are fast and firm in the skate lanes. Classic track firm, and waxless skis or klister needed in the tilled corn snow. Overall very good and should hold up for the weekend.

Trails were great today and the weather was about perfect. Skate-skied 3 laps of the 20-km loop between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Groomer was out the entire time keeping things orderly. Only precaution is to scan the crossings of Red Bud Road before skiing, because the sander has been down the road and cars drag sand/gravel across our path. Generally, if the groomer crosses the road, it is skiable until more than a few cars pass. Highlight of the day was seeing several families making a day of it on the trails...lots of wonderful and happy interactions, smiles from everyone I said "hi" to on the trail.

Excellent conditions. Track was newly set and fast. A little glazing but hard wax worked well. Flat groomed areas were firm but gave a good edge set for turns (as, I guess, would it be for skating). Great night to be in the woods.

Near perfect trail conditions and weather. The fresh 3-4 inches of snow covered all the ground ice from the thaw. Well groomed.

Excellent for skating. A well worn and icy classic track. We hung around for an extra day after BSG and were rewarded with really fantastic conditions. The skate deck was groomed Saturday after Badger State Games and set up nicely overnight. This made for a firm and fast base with plenty of control. Just a skiff of snow in the air as we were finishing made the scene complete. Kudos to the folks at Nine Mile for a fine weekend of racing and skiing.

Conditions are fantastic! Need I say more? Apparently I need to. So - skiing the trails at Nine Mile is fun, fun, fun! And yes, there is a classic track (2 in many places).
