2016-2017 season

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied the 20K course to wrap up 2016. About an inch of new snow and gentile grooming covered up the majority of the tree debris but there were still plenty of sticks for my son to flick off the trail while he waited for me to catch up.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Due to debris and icy conditions the only open trail at this time is the 10K loop. As crews continue to remove debris and groom, other trails will be opened. Classic tracks have not been re-set, and will not be until we receive more snow.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
The high school team skied this morning. The trails were significantly better than I anticipated given the warm temperatures and rain. The groomer did a great job tilling up the top layer and it was easy to get an edge and ski in control. As with all of the other trails across the state, there is quite a bit of debris in the trails from the heavy winds. There was some pooling of water at the bottom of some of the downhills which are a little bumpy. My first year skiers skied today with no problems! When I think back to the rollerski workout that the team did last year at this time, the trails, icy and debris filled, seemed like a little bit of heaven.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Volunteers have been removing debris from winds yesterday. Groomer combed down 1-2" of fluff that fell overnight. No attempt to break up crust in skate lane. Skating fair to poor. Classic track left as is. Classic skiing in skate lane only. Would not recommend classic skiing at this time.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Central Wisconsin experienced over 1/2" of rain on Sunday and extreme winds thereafter. Much of the trail system is in good condition, however there was pooling and freezing in low spots and lots of tree debris on the trails. Crews are working to clear the trail system, which may take a couple days. The skate lanes are being groomed, but the classic lanes will not be reset until debris is cleared and we receive enough snow to do so.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Hit up 9 mile Monday after the rain/wind storm. Base is still there, but the trails are brutal. The crust is totally skiable, but the wind has covered every inch of the trails with at least small debri and at worst fallen trees and so many branches as to make it impassable. I did click out and removed many of the major branches across the trail around the 20km loop, but to get the skiing back up to par I'd have to put on snowshoes and walk the whole trail. It's more of an obstacle course than skiing tracks at this point. 100% rock skis at this point.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Heavy rain overnight, followed by blustery winds. Debris and some trees on trail, but base still intact. Some water collection in low areas. No grooming done so far. They may be able to break up the ice, but need to avoid going too deep. Recommend that you wait for further updates before skiing at Nine Mile.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Both classic and skate lanes very good to excellent. Skate lanes level with minimal soft spots. No rocks. Classic track firm and smooth. A few soft pole plants, but again, no rocks. The usual oak leaves, but no other debris. Best ski conditions in the last two years.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skate lanes in good condition with marginal base. Track set on most trails in marginal base. Track was set with low snow unit and the track setter does not lock in position.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skate lanes groomed again today. Conditions excellent. No sign of any grooming for classic skiing, right side of trail totally ungroomed in many areas. No attempt to set tracks anywhere in the system. Would strongly encourage classic skiers to find alternative areas to ski. Very disappointing.
