Fresh snow, perfect grooming, and very scenic scenery. Glide is about what you'd expect given the temps - no need to fear the downhills! And the best part: The paradox of The Big Lake is that in addition to being the world's biggest snow machine, on days like today, it is also the world's largest space heater. This morning's low in Calumet was a balmy +0.1 degrees (Fahrenheit, not Kelvin), more than 20 degrees warmer than the interior!

There have been reports of some heavyweight in a red suit chasing a mutant deer (red glowing nose) on the trails but don't let that deter you! All trails are tilled and tracked, and even eight tiny reindeer pulling a grossly overloaded sleigh found the conditions firm and fast! Grooming completed at 10:30 a.m. Merry Christmas everyone from Swedetown Trails!

Reports are that it rained Monday afternoon in Calumet. Rain gave way to colder temperatures and by this morning Swedetown had accumulated a fresh 1-2 inches of snow. This was mostly piston bully groomed. Classic tracks were well set and the skate deck was firm, smooth, and reportedly a foot deep. The Monday rain had saturated the base and frozen it up hard. The hard track had not been tilled. The fresh snow had been compressed and rilled and skied very well. Skate skiing was excellent for a mostly local group of skiers to enjoy. The day was overcast and humid with a few very light lake effect snow showers.

The trails are freshened up with 1" of wet heavy snow that came down overnight. The skate lanes were dragged; classic tracks are still in good shape. Expect conditions to get faster as the temperature drops. Beware! The trees are laden with snow snakes, which may lead to a chilling and unpleasant surprise for the unwary skier. Use caution when skiing the wooded trails, as some of the snow-laden branches have a substantial amount of accumulation in them. Grooming completed at 11:00 am.
