Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 51 to 58 of 58    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Classic skied red and yellow loops today. Conditions were good except a few slightly icy spots and a few spots with debris.
Very well groomed trails and excellent trail mapping. If you're comparing to Lapham, the Red loop here was rated with the blue level of difficulty, but it was much easier than the blue level at Lapham. Same goes for the yellow loop at Zillmer which was easier than the black level at Lapham.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent-tracks are fast and firm, skate deck was great. Classic skied the red, green and brown loops, and from what I saw of the outer loop it was also in great shape.
Thoughtful grooming makes the difference! Leaving the tracks as they are was a good call, as they really can't be improved upon. Thanks to the groomers.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
The skating lanes on all loops were groomed this morning. The classic track was left as is. Conditions are very good overall. Some thin spots on the ridge on the east side of the yellow loop.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Great conditions.
Monday's heavy snow and the groomer's wonderful effort have the trail in mid-season shape, 100% groomed for classic and skate. No need for "rock" skis.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: very good with recent grooming, conditions not real fast, ok for good skis, great classic tracks and skate platform.
skied classic--great grooming, nice base, few place with leaves coming through; many thanks to groomers.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
All of the loops were packed, groomed and tracked Wednesday afternoon/evening. The trails are in very good condition overall. A little soft but colder temps will improve things. There is one stretch on the ridge, on the east side of the yellow loop, that is thinly covered and you may encounter some cobble sticking through.

Grooming Scheduling
[ B skis ]
We finally got our first snow of the season, about 10 inches, rather heavy wet snow on Monday into Tuesday. Plenty for a good start. The brown, red/green were rolled and combed Tuesday. I am planning on doing the yellow loop Wednesday morning with rolling and comb. Conditions are fair to good. Just need to firm up more. If time and conditions are favorable I plan on grooming and setting track in the afternoon or tomorrow.

The Zillmer area received up to 12" of new snow. All but the yellow trail were rolled on Tuesday. The yellow will be rolled and all will be combed Wednesday.
