Over the course of my ski I managed to cover a few of the North End loops and cutoffs. Same report as for the Birkie trail. I did run into Ron B. and was told that they've got five guys ready get after the trails once it stops snowing on Saturday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The main loop of the NE trails was groomed this morning as far out as the B cutoff. That section of trail groomed up very nicely and is very good condition for skate skiing except for many pine cones under the pine trees. The trail beyond the B cutoff is icey and the road crossing at Timber Trail is bare dirt. Tracks were not set so the classic tracks are icey and in several places very shallow. We have a good base with no bare spots even on the south facing slopes so we likely will be able to continue grooming as long as the temperatures cooperate.

The main loops of the NE were combed for skating, but no new classic tracks were set and the old ones are shallow in places.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The main loops at the NE were groomed this morning. The skate lane is firm and smooth but the tracks vary from place to place. Some tracks are excellent and some are very shallow as we were unable to make an impact on the approximately 6 k of our trails used for the Fat Bike Birkie with our equipment. The Tony Wise also has several kilometers untracked as that too was used for the Fat Bike race. The NE Classic trail was groomed recently and should provide good classic skiing.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Tony Wise trail was groomed this morning and is in very nice shape with the tracks a little shallow on the sections that will be used by the Fat Bike Birkie Friday and Saturday. The NE Classic trail section that was closed is now open so we are 100% open again. However, Fat Bikes will be using parts of the trails tomorrow and Saturday until about 3pm. Fat Bikers are reminded only the trails marked for the Fat Bike race are open to them and not the entire NE trail system.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The NE main loops were combed out this morning and some new track set where needed. Trail is still a little soft. The NE Classic only was tracked as well with the exception of the section closed due to drifting which is marked. Please remember that the Fat Bike Birkie bisects the NE trails in addition to using several kilometers of the system for the race. Fat Bikes will be allowed only on the trail used for the race starting 10 am Friday until 3 pm Friday at which time they are closed for Fat Bike grooming. Following the race on Saturday the trails will again be open for skiing.

Grooming Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We received about 4 inches of new snow overnight. The main loops were groomed for skate and classic this morning and early afternoon. The trails are very soft. The NE Classic and Tony Wise have not been groomed yet and parts of the NE Classic remain closed due to drifting from previous winds - detours are posted.
Reminder: the Fat Bike Birkie is this weekend and not only bisects the NE trails but uses several kilometers of the trail system. Bikes are allowed on the trails from 10 am Friday until 3 pm when the Birkie will start grooming for the race. On Saturday the trails will be used for the race until approximately 3 pm. The NE trails are essentially out of business for skiing from 10 am Friday through Saturday afternoon. The trails will be available as usual on Sunday morning.

The Tony Wise was groomed early this morning and is in great condition. Should be great skiing today unless it gets too warm this afternoon. The short section of the classic only remains closed with a detour signed.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The NE trails have a deep base and are in very good condition despite the warm weather. Due to the heavy snow last week combined with strong winds a section of the classic only trail is closed due to drifting. That section is marked and signs for a detour are in place. The skate deck was combed out this morning but the tracks have not been reset for several days and have gone through several freeze thaw cycles. There is a window of time each day when the skiing is reported very good that is usually just as the temperatures reach the freezing point and until the trails soften up.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The North End Classic trail was groomed today and is in great shape. The skate lane on the main trail was combed out to smoothe the trail from yesterday's use. The Tony Wise which was groomed yesterday is in very good to excellent condition.
