Surprisingly good considering the low snow totals. Even the West loops are now skiable. 10 degrees, light winds, saw 3 deer and 1 owl.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
CLCFNatFHNP is quite skiable. It's not perfectly groomed corduroy but passable with minimal disruptions. There are a few bare spots/exposed roots/grass showing, but by-in-large the skating is quite good. I wouldn't use your best skis unless that's all you have. Enjoy and thank you, Jerry!

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The artist rendering formerly known as Fox Hills has two full inches of skiing and is very skiable. The west loops in the woods are not open yet, but I had a great time on the field trails today at dusk. I used rock skis, but I didn't hit or see a single rock. The only hazards are the very occasional brown spot. Happy Holidays to the artist himself, Groomer Jerry Gensch. Fox Hills is now called Cedar Lake Conservation Foundation Nordic at Fox Hill Nature Preserve.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Early morning ski on fresh groomed corduroy. Great early seasons conditions. A few bare spots with occasional roots showing but overall a great morning skate ski. The grassy areas in the upper fields and lower prairie loops are in very good condition with a little bit of grass showing. Nothing that grabs your skis or interferes with glide. The woods areas less so--I would avoid the west loops. Approximately 6K of the 8.8 k system is open. No tracks yet until we get more snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Trails surprisingly good on a thin layer of snow. Extensive grooming yesterday and this morning resulted in a very nice skate deck with 80% of the system open. That said, the woods areas are not as good as the upper fields and lower prairie loops. Recommend B skis. Groomer plans to groom again this evening to set up for Sunday.
