Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent newly set trails at Bearskin/Golden Eagle - the snow temp didn't near the air temp of 34 in afternoon. There was minimal/rare icing in classic tracks. Skate tracks awesome!
Not sure where all the skiers were - yet the Bearskin/Golden trails are many, and it was a Sunday. Met some women from the Cities, also finding classic skiing good. Hint: I did have a Start wax with a 27-36 degree range. The Central Gunflint has great depth so can handle some warm-ups.

Conditions: Excellent classic and skate tracks!
The track setting quality is just amazing this year at the resorts. The snow conditions have been amazing, not to mention the beauty of big pines covered with snow. The short section through the BWCA is a wonderland of snow too. I had a good 20K ski today with my friend Raia. We've been skiing there every other day this week.

Skied the last three days on the Central Gunflint trails at Bearskin Lodge. About 2 ft. of snow on the ground, trails were all in excellent condition for both stride and skating. Hats off to Bob, Quinn and the entire Bearskin team for the great grooming and hospitality!

Conditions: Excellent classic conditions!
Skied out of Bearskin Lodge over MLK weekend when the temps were below freezing the entire time. Perfect grooming combined with a few inches of light powder that fell just before our group arrived, made for delightful trail conditions. Skied Beaver Dam, Ox Cart, Bear Cub, and Poplar Creek trails. In addition to perfect skiing, the trees of the forest were so heavily laden with snow which made for incredibly beautiful scenery!

Conditions: Excellent for classic.
About 95% of the trails are open. We skied Beaver Dam, Ridge Runner, Ox Cart, Old Logging Camp, Bear Cub World Cup (3rd loop not open yet), Moose Pasture. The air temp was -3F to -15F the whole time, so the snow was a bit slow even with Swix Polar White wax, but the scenery more than compensated! Trees were plastered with a thick layer of snow. Snow depth was probably 12-18".
