Skied the perfectly groomed trails of Beaver Dam and across the lake to Bear Cub World Cup. Smooth conditions after several 1/2 to 2" snowfalls prior to Saturday afternoon. Startled three huge moose on Bear Cub, halfway through loop. Easy decision to let the lingering bull moose win the stare-down contest, since he started it! Hills there were fast, with great attention paid by groomers to classic tracks on curves and corners for steady skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It's been a snowy week, 11.25 inches in the last seven days! The trail base is averaging between 11 and 13 inches. Trails are beautiful right now and are in excellent shape! It's tempting to say this is the best skiing we've had all year, but we've had some awesome skiing already; conditions right now, though, are quite close to the top!

It appeared to be about 6 inches of new snow. Trails were well groomed near both Golden Eagle Lodge and Bearskin Lodge. I skied on both. It was 12 - 14 degrees and sunny.

Sunny cold day (12 degrees when we began). My ski buddy and I headed out from the Bearskin Lodge to the Poplar Creek circle trail about noon today. Amazingly well set deep tracks. This is a beautiful loop with a variety of trees, and plenty of gradual ups and downs. And yes indeed there is one big hill to climb to get there (we harringboned up), and on the way back we side stepped down that big hill. We are so blessed to have good snow up here.

Wow, temp was in the mid twenties. About 2 inches of new snow. Trails had been groomed in the morning. We were amazed at the quality after just that little of gained snow. We skied 16 K total, covering sections on the Bearskin Lodge side and the Golden Eagle side. Some of the areas had been tilled, making the depths of the tracks deeper.....and faster. Saw some skaters flying out from Bearskin Lodge as we were finishing our ski. My wax was Rode Super Blue (thanks Burt). My skiing pal always skis on her woodies.

I have never skied at the Bearskin Lodge trails. I had heard wonder things and was glad I finally had the opportunity to experience skiing their wonderful trail system. The trail conditions were good to excellent. Most of the trails I skied were groomed to perfection. If you have not skied the Gunflint Trail System I recommend you give it a try. Totally awesome scenic views & overlooks and varied terrain. I will be skiing there again today.

Great skate skiing at Bearskin today. I was right behind the groomer in spots, and he turned a hard pack trail into a skating dream. Used my B skis because of some debris on the trail, but could have used good skis, as the snow depth is still very good. Survived the warm weather in fine fashion, and skiing is great!

18" of snow on the ground next to ski trail. Magnificent Nordic Skiing day at Central Gunflint Trail again. Temps high twenties to thirty two. Skied Ridge Run, among the towering white pines and beautiful vistas with perfect snow (and lots of it) blue clear sky's and sunshine! Also skied Red Pine, and many others. It was sooo great we skied all day! If you love to ski and you love great snow and grooming come on up! You will be glad you did.

Temp was 34 when I arrived at Bearskin Lodge around noon. The trails were in very good shape. It was nice and sunny. Had Start Racing Special.....36 - 27 F. Not "special" enough for me, or I didn't have enough on. Gobbed some Ski-Go HF, 41 to 30F. Had wonderful skiing then with no slipping. Enjoyed the Summer Home Road (saw lots of moose tracks), Ridge Run, and Lower Ridge Run, some Beaver Dam, Moose Pasture (that's Tree Heaven to me), and just one loop on the Campground trail, as usual so well set, and you can ski out on the lake from there. Sure wish my old dad would come north to ski!
