Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 9 to 18 of 19    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Wednesday, January 25, 2017
Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Follow up from my previous report. I skied the Thunders-Rajala loop, and the skate lane is very fast with good control. Be very careful on the Rajala downhill - icy, scary fast and there is a bare plowed logging road near the bottom that you will have to take skis off for. Other than that, a pretty good ski. As I said before, I would not classic; while the track is mostly defined, it's ice.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
I ran the groomer over the skate lane on Tuesday just as the temps were dropping and was able to wipe out the deep skate ruts from the warm weather. The classic track was left in place as we will have to hit it multiple times to break up the snow enough to set a defined track. Tried it yesterday, just wasn't happening. Skate conditions are okay, I'm not sure I would classic. Tracks are icy and scary fast. We may try to groom again on Friday. Downhills should be okay.

Boomer the Groomer reports trails groomed and tracked today after yesterday's new snowfall which left a nice soft cover over the solid base. Avoid Rajala Run until logging operations are reported completed.

Appears to have been groomed today. Trails well used by Mora ski team. Rajala Run downhill was skiable, but a few rocks remain on the rutted portion.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
All trails groomed Thursday, however there is logging activity at the base of the big hill on Rajala run so if you're good at stopping and controlling your descent it would be ok. Otherwise avoid and ski the rest which is in very good shape.

Trail was packed and tracks set on Tuesday. Everything is open except the Rajala Run which has hazardous ruts and will need more snow.
