We did some work over the past two days to re-open the 1.3k Intermediate Loop portion of the Hap snowmaking trail. The upper stadium is also open and both are accessible from the chalet stairway.

[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
I attempted to ski the manmade course just before dawn. It may have been the most treacherous conditions I have ever encountered on a groomed trail. The Snirt was frozen rock hard, so hard and icy that edging was impossible. However there is also so much dirt frozen into the ice that it was impossible to glide on the bases at all. I enjoyed the absurdity of it all for about 10 minutes and then went back home. Try again when it is warmer... or better yet go for a roller ski.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
After the continued warm temps and day of rain, we will stop grooming the Hap manmade loop until the weather changes. There is standing water in low areas and dirty snow most everywhere else.

Observation
Stopped by as I was driving through to take a pic. Observed very dirty snow with the snow going down fast in the hard rain at 12:45.

[ Bare ground ]
What a difference 24 hours can make. Yesterday's good conditions for the JNQ left me with the with some hope that I could get one more ski out of Theo today. It was not to be. Snow is extremely dirty with no glide; not productive skiing. I made it one time up the 'A' climb and called it quits.

Enjoyed an early morning hour looping a few laps through Wirth. Was groomed over night, mostly new cord. Dirty and icy spots still relatively easy to avoid.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Hap loop was groomed and tracked overnight. It is firm and in good shape this morning. The upper stadium and Trail 18 are closed today as we prepare for the Mayor's Challenge this weekend.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skied the man-made loop. Conditions were firm with many ice patches. The classic tracks were good in some parts but shallow in other areas. On the positive it wasn't very crowded.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied from 1 to 3 today, with temperatures starting at 31 and going up to 35. That seems to be the sweet spot for people like me who are wimps on the down-hills. I was a tad hesitant at the start, due to a few icy patches, but gained confidence as it softened up. Sugar and slush on the up-hills didn't bog me down. Glad I went! The only real problem spots were at the top of the small uphill on the south end of catwalk, where you could not avoid going through quite brown snow (though at least it was snow) and the next small up-hill where the snow had been scraped down to ice. Two young men were shoveling snow over another icy area just beyond the loop return junction by the lower stadium, so hopefully they will also do the two spots I just mentioned. Let's cross our fingers that tall the new snow just made for the Mayor's challenge this weekend holds up!
