Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
The Hap Lutter made snow ski trail is partially open - 2.8 km with the addition of the upper stadium. Fresh classic and skate grooming this morning. There is almost 1km of double classic tracks. All other trails still closed.

Man-made trails were fine tonight at Wirth. Trails were a little sugary on the uphills but there weren't any ice patches on the downhills. Groomers did a great job.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ Good skis ]
Skate skied the Hap loop around dusk. Usual man-made snow conditions. The partial loop is 2.8 km with the new section of trail by the grooming shed still closed -- however, they were working on it while I was skiing. The intermittent lighting still left something to be desired but the trail is now groomed right to the par 3 building eliminating the icy walk which is awesome. Also happy to see the shutters off the par 3 building, Loppet posters on the wall, friendly staff, and the rental equipment moved to allow for a sitting area.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Hap made snow trail is partially open. Icy spots were power tilled multiple times early this morning. After grooming from midnight until 5am, the snow was firm, and remained firm until last observed at 10am. Sugar is likely to again develop as more ski the trail today. Dirty snow reported in one location to be fixed. Lower stadium was expanded wider and longer. Timing complex was moved into position in the lower stadium. Upper stadium has been closed for snow making/letting snow piles dry. Grooming the upper stadium begins today and is not yet complete. All natural snow trails are closed for extreme icy conditions--grooming equipment even slides off the trails.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
It's a thrill. Sugar over ice. The trail desperately needs more snow to bind with the ice. Wax for skating is pretty irrelevant. The 10th hole downhill is scraped down and a bit rutty, but can be avoided by taking the saddle cut off. The two stadium areas still need a lot of work, especially the upper. There are a lot of beginner lessons and groups that use Wirth, and conditions are scary for learners right now. There are a couple of dark areas also - either the lights are out or nonexistent.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Skied north Wirth Upper/Lower Stadium & Hap loop in good condition and fast. Note - Back 40 is an sheet ice and Judy loop looked closed - could be ice/grass. Did not ski south of Chalets. Let it snow.

Snowmaking loop is in excellent shape for skate or classic. This is a very hilly loop. Great for training!

The man-made loop was surprisingly good this morning. Sugary loose snow but it was a relief to see it recovered from the rain. My GPS says it is a 2.5k loop right now but more looks to be on the way.

Skied around 2:30 pm. Trails look like they had been tilled not long before we arrived, but it was interesting conditions. The top surface was glazed, but once you put some weight on it, it broke down to the tilled material, so generally edging wasn't a problem over most of the trail. Fast skiing except when you headed directly into the wind, which was still quite strong. Lots of little sticks still on the trail but it appears the crew had been shoveling thin areas so coverage was good. Recommend B skis for now.

Man made loop is pretty good, considering the rain yesterday. Most of the trail is coarse sugar with a very few areas of hard ice. Quite a few twigs on the trail, but full coverage everywhere it is open. The snow was very fast. Lower stadium and the old tubing hill are open, only the upper stadium and the loop by the machine shed are still closed.
