Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Great ski this morning. Temps were about 27F so it was plenty warm. There was an event/race this morning but it wasn't crowded. Corduroy was nice and the classic tracks looked to be in great shape. Hopefully Wirth North and the loppet trail survive the higher temps today and Friday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Snowmaking Trails: We have all of the 7.5k Masters World Cup snowmaking trails open and groomed for classic and skate. This includes LaSquadra, Ridgeline, Trail 18, Green Meadow Loop, Twin Lake Trail with an extra loop in the meadow, an out and back section off the north side of the Ridgeline Trail, and an extra loop near LaSquadra. See Snowmaking map for information on these trails.
North Wirth Trails: We are out grooming all of the 10.6k of natural snow trails this morning. The snow coverage is very good for the most part with a few exceptions of wind blown ridges. We have classic tracks set in most sections.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Took a break from the manmade loops and skied the front nine, tornado alley, and JD gardens. The classic tracks ranged from full depth to smooth with the skate deck. There were some thin and grassy spots in the tracks, but the skate deck was well covered pretty much throughout. Some plow debris on both sides of the Hwy 55 underpass, but snowed in under the bridge.

Beautiful sunny blue sky no wind afternoon for classical skiing on the snow-making loops. Very good conditions throughout, Twin Lakes was especially nice and fun! Only caution is that on my first descent down the big hill, the inside classical tracks were surprisingly put in right in the middle of the last curve... so keep to the left outside of that curve or you could catch your ski on the track (like I did). Happy to be able to take a weekday off as not a lot of skiers out. The new Trailhead building looks particularly spacious from the trail above the back part of it, can't wait to see it completed.

What a gorgeous morning at Theo! Skied loops with Amy and Marc until he ditched us for Brian. I had great kick with my Skintecs in beautiful deep tracks. Snow on the firm corduroy skate deck was considerably slower.

The folks grooming the trails must have had the day off! There's plenty of snow, of course, but it doesn't look like the trails have been groomed since Sunday morning. Nevertheless, enjoy the snow, everyone.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails in North Wirth were rolled after the snow.
Grooming plans: Grooming Monday morning. Outside of the snowmaking, should be the best day of skiing on natural snow trails in North Wirth in a few years! Oh, and some additional grooming in preparation for the World Masters. Judy Loop has a little extra, and Skyline has some extensions onto the bike paths from the overflow parking lot, through Tornado Alley and all the way to Wirth Parkway along Highway 55.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ B skis ]
My wife and I parked at Wirth Lake and skied a direct route to the man made loop. She was classic skiing while I was skating. On the way out the natural snow trails were thin and a bit icy as todays snow was just starting to come down. The man made trails were in great shape. A portion of the loop was closed for an event but we did get to see some sled dogs pulling sleds around on the loop, that looked like good fun and the dogs really seemed to enjoy the pulling. Because of the closed portion we skied the Meadow and Twin Lake loops quite a bit. The snow was coming down fast and furious and the trees quickly filled up to winter wonderland status. We had a blast. On the return trip to the car the natural snow trails had filled in to a nice extent, it is amazing what a few inches of snow can do.

I skied from the Beach house to the Chalet and aside from a few blacktop patches it was soft fluffy snow. The groomed stuff is packed but slightly icy so I actually preferred the natural stuff! Beautiful huge snowflakes!

Skied the Theo man made loop this afternoon. The trails had a nice layer of loose snow on top of a firm base. Had a great ski on great trails in cold temps. There is a short section closed near the upper stadium, it looks like there is some construction going on for the World Masters Cup. I also spoke with a groomer who was preparing to move more snow around for the last bit of man made loop on the Judy Loop. He said that they hope to get that open just before the World Masters Cup practice starts. Great job at Theo this year!
