Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I hit up the trail this morning again and it was in great shape from groomers last night. The woodland curve is a little icy as is the bottom of the downhill in the Judy Loop from the Loppet last weekend but otherwise, it is in perfect, fast shape.

Look out for glass shards from a broken beer bottle in the flat teaching area below the upper stadium. I pulled over there to put my poles on after some legs only work and noticed a number of pieces of brown glass in the snow. I was able to gather some of it in a pile just off the trail but some is still embedded in the snow. I emailed the loppet foundation so hopefully it can be cleaned up tomorrow. I would hate for someone to scratch up their skis on it. Otherwise trails were great as always on the man made snow and skiing the twin lakes loop under the bright moon was awesome!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I've classical skied JD Rivers, Tornado Alley and other natural snow areas in Wirth north the past several days. Conditions Monday same as Sunday - there are tracks throughout. Some deep and pretty good shape, others shallow. Some are not too icy, and some are so icy it's like they were set by putting water into an ice mold. Some smooth, some quite rough. It's all skiable, but hit or miss overall. The manmade loop is awesome, especially with the extra bits added for the loppet.

After all the bad reports from yesterday headed out to Theodore and enjoyed some very good conditions. Groomed last night and skate deck firm and fast and deep classic track set. With the cooler temps and fresh grooming this morning very enjoyable ski. Great grip and glide, some of the best conditions I have experienced this year.

I skied everything west of Theo Wirth Parkway from the lower stadium. Conditions were quite good after yesterday's classic races and grooming last night. There was a fair amount of leafy debris in wooded areas and a few icy patches but nothing to warrant B skis. Classic tracks looked decent also with a similar amount of debris. It was pretty quiet from 8-10am, making for a very enjoyable ski!

Just finished skiing Wirth. Freshly groomed and great for skating or classic on the man-made loop (didn't ski or even notice the natural trails). I skied grip-tape, and found perfect klister-skiing conditions: fast and good to excellent kick everywhere. Rarely had to leave tracks - really fun. One downside to our ski experience: we were unpleasantly surprised at the daily man-made trail fee hike (check costs before you head out)!

Everything was open, groomed, and absolutely lovely. I hope many of you were able to get out at some point during daylight today to ski. If not, then bring out the headlamps and enjoy it while the skiing is good and the trails are open!

Hap, Judy, Green Meadow, and Twin Lake trails of North Wirth have been rolled and tracks set. Skyline and Tornado Alley were rolled during and after the snowfall and tracks will be set later in the morning. Today is a rest day for World Masters and all North Wirth trails are open.

Skied the manmade classic World Masters race course. It was in great condition. They have set a best line double track most of the way. It flows well. My skins worked pretty good although klister may have been better. I didn't put on anything special for glide so the skis were not particularly fast at 36+ degrees. Fun to see and ski with skiers from around the world. A Swedish guy with a backpack looked like he was double-poling everything. There could be some fun turns when it gets faster and crowded. The toughest looked like the 180 right going downhill to the west as part of the Judy trail. As always the long climb near the chalet and 10th hole was tough. 50 years ago we used to go up that first in the high school races. Could be interesting for the Monday races with possible incoming snow. Good luck to you skiers.

We skied the 7.5 loop this morning and it was in pristine condition. There were four sets of classic tracks in some areas in preparation for the Masters Races this weekend. This loop is now the best snow making loop in the metro especially with the extended length! Thanks to the Loppet and the groomers!
