Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

Epic fun times again at Ashwabay with Amy! We had two sessions there today, morning and afternoon (interrupted by "work" meetings, as I have not [yet] freed myself from the bonds of revenue generation :) The morning session was just out on Abbey to the cabin and back, snow was fast, control was perfect. Afternoon session went past the cabin and around the back of the mountain and my skis (old Rex Blue) could tell the snow was getting colder. Still excellently groomed, just a joy to be on, especially mid-week. Anchor and Seagull were in great shape as well.

Skied 30k today on a multitude of the Mt Ashwabay trails and they were all very well groomed. Very nice.

Beautiful day of skiing today at Mt Ashwabay with temps hovering around 32 F. With the recent snow there is a good base but some leaf debris in the track from the winds. All of the trails appeared freshly groomed. The classic tracks were deep and firm. The skate deck was a little soft. These trails keep getting better every year and I appreciate the great job they do grooming them.

The skate tracks have a beautiful comb. Still a little soft on lower Anchor (groomed yesterday and today) and on upper Anchor (groomed only today). Power line in classic tracks were good. There was also a beautiful trail heading down Telford and heading over to Seagull.

Rolled, dragged, and tracked Jolly Long and Skid Road. Reset classic track and skate on Abbey and Telford. Re-groomed skate on lower Anchor, and classic on Beginners' Loop. The trails look great with the exception of thin spots on Jolly.

New snow and very cold. Skate trails on Anchor, Abbey, Beginners Loop, Skid Row, Northern Lights and Seagull have all been fully groomed and in excellent condition. Classic trails have been rolled and dragged but waiting for an equipment repair to track them.

As usual, the conditions at Mt. Ashwabay were amazing - thank you to the groomers! There were many smiling faces out on the trails today, it feels like "real" winters of yore. Snow was coming down fairly fast for the entire ski, grooming staff was out pretty much constantly working to compact and refine the skate deck and classic tracks. We went through some of the classic-only that wasn't groomed too recently, but it was wonderful. I found the skating glide to be amazing (Rex Blue), but since the deck was a little soft and I'm a little "girthy" :), the push phase of the skate was pretty difficult. Amy and I switched to classic after about 5K or so skating. Abbey Road obviously gets the most use, but past the cabin the back of the mountain was sublime. Thank you again, what a treasure.
