Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
There was a solid snowpack in most areas. It was uneven in some spots and not the fastest snow. It wasn't too bad though.

Good solid base with day old lake effect snow on top. Skate skied most of the loops. Skiers have packed down fresh snow and things were pretty fast. Tracks were set and very fast. If you want to ski on real snow that actually comes from the sky, this is the place!

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skate skied, trails were soft and a bit bumpy but with a good base under to keep most debris out of the way. I would use B skis. Just a few thin spots. Classic tracks set. I skied maple to oak to white pine to river and the loop and back. It was glorious! Get out there!

Go and get it! First time here. Skate skied. Best kept secret for recent lake effect snow. Also some snow coverage from Friday evening that made for a little soft stuff after last groom. Classic track set nicely. Great warming clubhouse and meeting new people who are out for first time this year and grateful for the snow!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Brule had a bonus 5-6" lake effect snow over the first part of the week. BRSF groomed and set track today on most trails and also made a pass down the classic trail. I didn't see tracks on the classic trail. The fat bike trail was also groomed. Looking better than ever so far this year.

The WDNR groomed all the trails yesterday except the further out trails of Red Pine and Nebagamon. The deck set up very well with the temperature drop but expect some ruts from yesterday's skiing when the trail was soft.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The BRSF (Brule River State Forest) had rolled the classic trail as of noon today. No tracks yet but it's looking optimistic. I skied a soft deck in most areas. The immediate trails from the chalet are best since they have been groomed more.

I measured 7 inches of fresh snow on the picnic table at the chalet. I skated about 5k. Unfortunately the snow was very light and only added an inch or two to the thin base after rolling and grooming was completed. Expect a soft deck and watch for rocks. No tracks were set.

My wife and I were excited to get out and ski after finally getting some snow. Unfortunately, the groomers had not been out yet, so we were breaking trail most of the way. Snow was a little thin under heavy stands of conifers. Despite the slow conditions, it was great to get out. Looking forward to skiing here again after the trails get groomed.
