Made the commitment to drive far north to Valley Spur today and what a good decision that was! Terrific striding. Plenty of snow. Freshly groomed. Lots of happy skiers and a nice group of volunteers running things. Highly recommend, particularly for classic skiers. Carpe Skiem!

The area received about 6" of LES overnight which was rolled and tracked. Snow bands kept coming through during the day, so another 4" after grooming was done at 10am. Classic was very good.

Too much fresh snow for quality skate. Classic tracks set, but were quickly covered by drifting snow. A fantastic winter experience!

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
Temps ran up to 39F overnight and probably won't get below freezing until late Saturday night. A number of classic skiers out today and report tracks were holding up. With the forecast, we are asking skaters to stay off the skate deck if they are leaving deep marks.

Groomer John C was out early and scratched up the skate lanes but left the classic tracks. Skaters were giving it a very good to excellent rating as the last two melt downs firmed up our deck with some light snow since mixing in well with the old snow. Classic tracks are faster. A solid 12" base throughout the system. Lodge will be open everyday from 10a-4pm every day through New Year's Day.

Very good conditions, 3-4 inches of fluff has fallen since yesterday mornings grooming. Tracks were still in good shape, with any new snow skied in. Easy control on the steep downhill was welcome.

Lake effect snow showers kept drifting in yesterday and overnight so groomer was out early this morning to roll the system and set track.

I skate skied B, Z and parts of G early this afternoon. The trail had been recently groomed. It was in great condition, very smooth. The trail was a little soft and the fresh snow made the skiing a bit slow. Glide was faster in the classic tracks. The inner trails are more firm. These trails are gorgeous.

Conditions were amazing! Groomer was out Thursday and today there was a fresh dusting on top of a hard-packed snow base. Truly a winter wonderland here. The warming hut has friendly staff, and tea kettles for hot drinks. Well worth the drive and trail fees.
