Trail Detail
Notes
The Piedmont trail has 5k of trail for beginning and intermediate skiers. This double-tracked trail leads you through both aspen, birch, and hardwood forest. Handmade signs made by a skier in the Piedmont neighborhood and a beautiful overlook of the St. Louis River Valley are the unique features of this trail.Trail Reports

Tracks are mostly intact and just a few sticks here and there that are easily avoided. Huge thank you to the groomers who have the trail in great shape after it was driven over last week by a vehicle.

The bad news is the vehicle damage - enough to bring one's faith in humanity down several notches. The tires trashed both tracks for a good part of the course. The good news is that the loop with the big hill is unscathed, as is the return from F (junction with Evil Knievel) back to B (skate loop/two-way). The tracks in those sections remain solid and without much debris, and there's decent coverage on the big downhill.

I did ski the whole outer loop. Someone drove a vehicle on the outer loops, digging deep ruts into what would have otherwise been perfect trail conditions. The classic tracks were perfect on all sections that were not driven over. The tire ruts are deepest on the long downhill sections right after the bench by the St. Louis River overlook and at the end of the skate loop. The skate loop was almost unskiable.

Well, Piedmont Thursday afternoon was very fast! Just a beautiful day and grateful to be out on our trails with the snow we still have! Track is getting washed out in many areas. Lots of spots where people have fallen. Be careful for uneven downhills out of track, fast speeds! Just a beautiful warm day to ski one of our favorite Duluth trails. Thanks to groomers. Parking Lot full but ski trails not that busy from 1:30-4. Probably good skis are fine, very little leaves and sticks. Snow cover dwindling.

14F. Overcast. Holy cow. It's beautiful out there! The tracks are in stellar shape, except some people divots and a handful of spots with ground /grass. The parking lot was full at 2 pm.

Had to get out in the fresh snow this evening! Trails are not groomed and the base is solid ice. However with a couple inches of fresh powder on top it was an enjoyable ski. There were skied in tracks for most of the classic loop. The skate loop was not in great shape due to some frozen tire tracks and I would not do it again until we get more snow or it is groomed.
