Trail Detail
Notes
A couple of good loops, although it seems to get more wind-blown than other metro trails. New in 2013, 5K snowmaking loop.Trail Reports

Excellent classic conditions at Hyland. My skins got good grip in the tracks on all climbs, and the swix polar wax (7 or below) had great glide. Very uncrowded for a Sunday! Cold of course, but it felt great once one warmed up.

At noon, the snowmaking loop was in excellent condition. However, I found the snow slower than early evening yesterday with my pace being off 3/4 mph. But it was still fairly fast. I naively expected similar conditions but I guess because of overnight grooming and it being earlier in the day, today's snow cover on the skate deck was cold and dry while yesterday early evening's snow was warmer with some moisture in it even though it was about 5 degrees warmer today. Thanks again to groomers for great conditions.

The temperature was 30° when I began skiing and the conditions were fantastic. Zero sugar or icy spots, the uphills and downhills were in mint condition. Bravo to the groomers!

Skated all the lit trails this morning, and snow conditions were holding up well. The grooming was immaculate as usual, and hills and turns were still firm. Either the snow was a little slow (weird temp swings recently) or my glide wax was off (more likely), but things seemed a bit slower than normal...as I expected. The warmer temps also meant that some of the more used portions closer to parking were already starting to get a little worn/sugary on the corners, but this also meant that I found no boilerplate throughout the course. Enjoy the warm day while we have it! Big thanks to the groomers, as always.

At 5:20 pm start, the snowmaking loop was in excellent condition. Despite earlier events, there was no sugar build whatsoever. Temperature was right around freezing, the snow was fast - it was my fastest pace of the season, no trouble getting bite and no boilerplate on the Boulder Ridge downhill. Just a few burnt-out lights on Boulder Ridge flat leading to the downhill and at the top of Scenic Foothills. Thanks for great conditions groomers.

All man-made trails (5K loop) were open. Conditions were excellent this morning. Skate deck was firm at 6AM and fast. The classic tracks looked to be in great shape as well. As always, kudos to the groomers and all the workers who keep us on the trails during a barren winter, we are so fortunate to have you!

Very good conditions on the snow-making loops despite the slightly above freezing temperatures. Pretty fast but not icy and the uphills were not very sugary. Left just in time as buses and lines of cars were coming in after 3pm!

Tracks were filled in and slow this morning. About an inch of fresh snow on the skate deck. Good morning for some slow skiing. Made the hills easier to climb and much more control going down.

The snowmaking loop was in very good condiion at my 5:00 start. It was about 28 degrees and the moon was out briefly at my start, otherwise it was overcast. I was dumbfounded given the likely daytime weekend traffic but the sugar was light except at the top of the steeper climbs. Otherwise the snow was thankfully fast. There was brief boilerplate before the curve on the Boulder Ridge downhill which had two "lanes" separated by modest snowplow wake. Skier traffic was really light except for a bunch kids with bibs on Star and the start/end of Willow Creek who I had to dodge a few times as they skied across the trail in front of me. Thanks for a great job groomers.
