Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails recently groomed and tracks set as of 10AM. Anything in full sun was mashed potato, but shaded areas were quite icy. Tracks provided really nice glide. Edges of classic track were very soft, so had to be careful going on downhill curves not to fly off. Overall great ski.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
Some lights are currently out at the Battle Creek Winter Rec Area on the machine-made snow trails. The affected sections include: half of the pond loop (from the end of the parking lot by the porta-potty to the maintenance building), Winthrop Ridge, Winthrop Extension, Cowabunga, and the west side of the upper tree loops. Please be aware of this when planning your visit to the area.

Ski conditions at 7 AM were very good for both classic and skate. Considering weather, well done Ramsey co.

At 9AM skate lane was in excellent condition. A few sections getting direct sunlight were getting soft. Tracks looked great, in fact you could stay in the tracks through the bottom of Cawabunga.

I grabbed my rock skis this morning to venture out on the natural snow. I skied the Silver trail. A very thin base with a lot of leaves and sticks. I spent more time worrying about avoiding a face plant from the oak leaves than watching for bare ground. Definitely fun to ski. Man made trails freshly groomed with very few skiers this morning.

The West is the Best! Freshly groomed, thank you groomers. Fast, firm, and nice deep tracks for Classic. The skate deck looked amazing and skaters were flying. I tried venturing off of the the man made trails on top of the hill (wooded area) but would not recommend due to the shallow track, debri, etc.) Great sunny day to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

I must have arrived right after the groomers worked their usual magic. I believe I had first tracks, starting about 11:00 a.m. The classic tracks were fresh and well-set. Skating deck appeared to be solid and pristine. It was not as chilly as expected (bright sunshine certainly helped).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Skied the natural snow trails on my rock skis. They were soft and chewed up by the time I was there at 2pm but decent coverage except some spots on the downhills. The east facing uphill from Winthrop was bad: dirt and rocks so I recommend skipping that part. The other sections would be worth it if you have rock skis and want to mix it up.

I skied the front side covered with artificial snow. The coverage was excellent. Tracks were very good. Snow was fresh and moist. My wax gripped the snow, but the snow was soft and it was a little hard to get a good glide.

Skied all trails this morning, natural snow and made-made. Thank you groomers for rolling the natural-snow trails, it felt really nice to ski in different areas of the park! Snow depth was sufficient this morning on the World Cup and Ski Games trails and it was beautiful. Be cautious as a few sticks or rocks may start to emerge, but it is well-worth a try on this nice winter day! Classic tracks on the ski games were set, but a little grassy, I classic skied on the skate deck which was good at that time.
