A nice late season bonus. Skyline was groomed this morning and in pretty good shape for skating. You can see where the groomer tried to set classic tracks, but they went down to the grass. Twin Lake loop was also groomed, but it has a lot of debris and polling into asphalt is not so fun. There is gravel near the bridge to tornado alley. Skyline is your best bet.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
All of Butler/Bog trails segments are groomed and open! No classic track was set. Norm Oakvik turns right at the end and just goes back through the bog trail.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Bare ground ]
Attempted grooming from 394 trail to the Bridge trail. Some sections still had snow, but lots of bare ground and pavement. Wedding hill was the best of all trails for conditions today. the 394 trail was mostly bare ground. The Bog trail was ski-able with rock skis. JD Rivers was mostly bare ground. Tornado alley was mostly covered, but then a few patches of pavement.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Eloise Butler and The Bog were just groomed but I would not recommend that you ski the trails. Icy downhills and uphills, lots of debris from the lack of snow. I would say ski somewhere else.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Eloise Butler Trail, Quaking Bog, Norm Oakvik, Erickson, Wedding Hill and 394 trails all groomed for skate and classic. New classic was left as it was. We don't have the depth of snow in here like in years past. It is getting harder and harder to set classic tracks on these trails. Some bare spots are developing. Generally good skate skiing right now. Classic skiing not the best.

I skied laps in quaking bog yesterday Wednesday over lunch, and conditions were remarkably good for skating. It was fast in many shadowed places and a little sticky in other spots that were in the sun, but all in all the transitions between the two snow types were not extreme or 'lurchy'. I could get a nice edge everywhere. Coverage remained good with one rock I noticed beginning to poke through and a few thin spots, but overall very fun skiing! Will be icy in morning, but should be good as things release midday.

Went for a quick skate ski on the natural snow trails (Skyline, Tornado Alley, Wirth Lake) this morning at about 10am. Coverage was great, absent a few dirty but easily-avoidable spots on the Skyline trail. Skate deck was firm and fast considering the warm temperatures. It was clear it had been groomed recently, as there was little sign of ice from the sleet we got last night. Hope the trails continue to hold up through the warm temps.

Best "backwoods-urban" skiing you'll find! Eloise Butler, Wedding Hill, and Quaking Bog are in the best shape so far this season. None of the usual uphills have exposed dirt or twigs. The snow is surprisingly clean on 95% of the South Wirth trails. There are a few leaves and a couple stray twigs to contend with, but no exposed dirt or rocks. The Jar Hill and Wirth Lake trails are in good shape as well, and there is new return trail from Jar Hill to the front of the Wirth Beach House parking lot, which is nice. The connection across I-394 is dirty as usual, but the descent to Brownie Lake is in good shape, and there is tons of snow under the Brownie-Cedar tunnel. I could not see any ice in the tunnel. I did not ski around Cedar Lake but it looked to be in good shape as well.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed Butler, Big, Erickson, Oakvik, 394 trails for classic skiing this morning. Butler is better than the others. Some dirt turning up. Not great classic conditions, but you can still do it.

Skied South and North trails today at Wirth. What a beautiful day! There were a few spots in the trails that were starting to become bare, but they were easily avoidable. The natural trails north of the man-made trails didn't have as firm of a skate deck as the rest of the trails and they were a little icy on the uphills in that section as the groomed slow gets pushed away. Classic trails were intermittent throughout both parts of Wirth and some were set tracks while others looked to be made by skiers. There was a groomer out around 3:30 pm in the Quaking Bog regrooming that section which was really nice as there were really firm skate decks throughout the trails. Make sure to get out there and have fun!
