Notes

Some of the best trails in southern Minnesota. Tucked in the valley behind the school, the trails run around the northern slopes of the valley making them quite challenging and also well protected from the sun. Some lighted sections, and snowmaking operations.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed St. Mary's trails this morning. Reset the Classic track where needed and scratched the skate lane. Conditions are as good as it gets! We'll be grooming the skate lane Saturday and Sunday early mornings, expect a great weekend of skiing.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Three inches of fresh snow over hard packed base. 100% of trails groomed this evening for both skate and classic. Trails were soft but will firm up overnight with cold temps. Conditions are excellent on all trails. Tree debris has been mostly covered with new snow so classic tracks are clean. The field in Yon's has been completely packed for MYSL night on Thursday afternoon.

We got over 3" of fresh snow last night -- beautiful powder skiing today. Groomers were out at 5:30 PM, when I was leaving. Should be fantastic tomorrow!

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We received about 1/2" of heavy snow this morning and temps are near 40F. The skate deck was lightly groomed on most trails. Conditions are soft but very good for skate skiing. The classic track is in reasonably good shape with the new snow making them somewhat shallow. Overall the snow is holding up exceptionally well with very few icy spots but with a lot of tree debris in some areas.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skate trails groomed this morning. Track looks good. Skiing is very good in most areas -- some icy areas (careful going around corners) -- still a lot of tree debris. Happy to have snow -- pray for more!

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
100% of all trails were groomed for both skate and classic. Snow conditions range from excellent to icy in spots. Classic track overall is good with some very thin sections where the snow cover is more ice than snow. The higher elevation trails have the best snow conditions. The downhill trail from the upper parking is extremely icy; it is highly recommended skiers use the lower lot in Yon's Valley to access the trails. Skiing this weekend will be very good...enjoy it while it lasts!

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fallen trees have been removed from Upper Trail and River Trail. All trails have been packed but the snow is still wet and soft. As the temps drop and the snow firms overnight we will continue to groom for the weekend.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Most trails were packed this morning. The snow is still very wet and in some areas water has not frozen. Tree debris is over much of the trails. Upper trail has a large tree down; we hope the remove it this afternoon. There are no classic tracks set at this time. The lower parking lot in Yon's is closed as the access road is very muddy and rutted. The entire Yon's field has been packed for evening activities. Conditions should improve as the snow freezes and we can actually groom with massive snow balls but at this time the trails are still very soft and wet.

Morning
Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
The weather has not been kind to nordic skiers. Rain and warm temps have caused very soft and wet snow conditions. We have ponding water in many locations. We are asking skiers to please not ski until we can get back on the trail system and try to recover from our current situation. Thank you for cooperating.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Not bad for classic skiing with my old Birkie skis! Had special purple for kick wax. Amazing how this trail retains snow. No one else skiing, but orgers will be coming after school/work. Trail is kind of squishy, but they just groomed the track for skaters. Don't be afraid to get out here and enjoy! I saw snow flees too!
