Notes

Some of the best trails in southern Minnesota. Tucked in the valley behind the school, the trails run around the northern slopes of the valley making them quite challenging and also well protected from the sun. Some lighted sections, and snowmaking operations.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The trail conditions are remarkably good considering all the rain. However, the conditions will change though out the day as the temp increase. The trails were groomed this morning between 9-11AM; after 11 the snow was transitioning to softer and softer conditions. This afternoon the snow will be very wet and heavy but skiable. Low dips in the trail may have standing water; there are some very icy spots. Tree debris is pretty widespread, please assist by picking up sticks. Thanks.

We are receiving steady rain. The trails are extremely soft; we ask all skiers to please stay off the trail system until the snow firms up and we can start grooming to recover the trails. Your cooperation will be appreciated by all skiers. Thank you.

SMU Trails Closed - Rain! Hope everyone enjoyed the glorious trails this past weekend. With the rain today and tomorrow we would request to not ski on the trails today. We'll evaluate how much moisture is in the trails tomorrow morning and send an update. Looks to cool off Tuesday night that could dry out some of the moisture but skiing on the wet trails risk adding ruts into the snow that the groomers couldn't get out. Hope for some cool weather at night and think snow.

Conditions this week have been great following the unexpected snow. Classic tracks have been very good. Corduroy skate deck on Thursday as good as it gets. Today was great, only a few dieing ash trees are dropping some bark in a few areas. Thanks groomers for the great work before and after the snow!

Six inches of great snow! All trails were packed this morning and classic tracks set. The skate deck is very soft; the classic track was set around 10AM and is soft. Conditions will improve as the snow firms up with colder temps.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Drove down from the Twin Cities for good skiing. So nice to be out with great weather and great trails. Grooming was better than we anticipated - manmade snow sections were great. Natural snow was quite icy but definitely skiable. No classic trails were set but the skate trails that are groomed have plenty of snow and only a few areas with a little debris!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Trails groomed this morning. Skate deck is in fair to good condition with some ice on downhills and tree debris still an issue. No classic track. The upper trailhead approach to the trail system should not be used - the trail from that parking lot is pure ice; please park in the lower lot in Yon's. We will groom again on Saturday morning.

All trails except Rattlesnake all trails were groomed this morning. We have made substantial progress is breaking up the hard packed snow and getting a good, skiable skate deck. There are still icy spots and downhills should be skied with caution but overall SMU is in good condition. We are unable to set classic tracks.
