Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
This morning Steve and Dennis groomed and tracked: Telford, Anchor, Seagull, and Rollercoaster. They tracked Sugarbush Classic. Once things firmed up, what was groomed came out as mid-winter conditions. We'll rate it as very good.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
We got Telford, Anchor, Seagull and Rollercoaster fully groomed for skate and classic, would rate as good to very good condition - just a little soft yet. Sugarbush Classic was tracked, is in very good condition to the tin shed, has some wet spots on the low side of the loop, and a little thin through the pines just past the tin shed.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Soft, but good skiing.
Anchor and Seagull have been rolled, it's soft, and takes some getting used to, but feels wonderful. Some sticks here and there, but I went out on my good skis and felt comfortable. Once there's some more grooming done, this should be amazing skiing!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Partially groomed.
It hasn't been groomed since before the storm, but you can skate Swiss Miss to the top of the ski hill. Short but still fun!

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Better than excellent rock skiing.
Skated Anchor and lower Seagull this evening with only a few minor inconveniences of a couple of rocks, sticks, raspberry stubble, and lumps. Overall it was a good first ski of the season.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Fair to good. Skated Ashwabay this morning - much better than expected, especially given the lack of snow in the area. Anchor was groomed in good shape, Seagull was only rolled and still a good ski. Coverage is good, with a few sticks and a rock or two. The training loop was sketchy near the trailhead. Conditions definitely improved as I went up (and up and up some more).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ B skis ]
Today Jeff and I cleared, rolled and packed with the ginzu: Raven, Deerpath and Sugarbush. Most of it had decent coverage, except where it was wet on Raven and Sugarbush. I skied Anchor and Sugarbush to the tin shed, and they both skied surprisingly well. Definitely early season conditions, but not bad. More skiers were showing up about 2pm as I was leaving.

Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
Today we rolled the Ashwabay skate trails, including: Telford, Anchor, Seagull, and Rollercoaster. We packed Anchor with the ginzu. The base is thin and uneven, but Anchor looks quite skiable, maybe rate it as fair condition.
