Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fresh snow, fresh corduroy.
Skating was somewhat slow since yesterday's snow was still setting up. A nice problem to have in mid-April! It was about 30 degrees at noon. Freshly groomed, and plenty of base. No bare spots; didn't even see any thin areas. Spring is supposed to arrive starting tomorrow, so get it while the getting is good!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Powdery but fast.
With a fresh snowfall of 3 inches on a solid base, the Michigan Tech trails looked like a winter wonderland. With more cool weather in the future, it looks like the snow will last a couple more weeks.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent for skating; recently groomed.
This is why I love the UP! The Nara trails were great Saturday for skating, even though they were getting a little soft from the warm sun.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent. 12+ inches of new snow and perfect grooming makes for great spring skiing.
some branches down due to snow up in the trees, but skiers have been doing a good job of helping out to clear the trails of debris. The big stuff is all removed and only bits of small branches remain that are easily avoidable.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Perfection! Freshly groomed this morning.
Skiing nirvana! Sunny, calm, 15 degrees at 8:30, with snow flocked trees and perfectly groomed tracks! I classic skied and my husband skated and we enjoyed some of the best skiing in the past two years on natural snow! Such a treat to ski when the Twin Cities is brown! Thanks to the groomers for their work cleaning up all the downed trees!

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Almost perfect, bomb-proof tracks and firm, fast, flat and freshly tilled skate lanes. Minimal debris from the St. Paddy's heavy snow dump (>12").
It doesn't get any better than today. Snow flocks the trees, blue sky and sunshine, 30 degrees. There were some diaphanous snow curtains being released from the trees occasionally leaving a bump in the "road". There could easily be fine skiing for the next two weeks, or more.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Nice, but timing is everything!
About as good as it get from 11-1 today, then it started to soften. Firm skate deck, but not at all icy, and great control on the downhills. Friday is forecast to be the last sub-freezing morning for a while, so start your weekend early and get it while the getting is still good.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fresh powder groomed on top of a bulletproof base.
As good as it gets! The fresh snow groomed up nicely, resulting in good glide despite the cold (10 degree) temps, great edging, and perfect climbing conditions.
