Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I Classic skied most of the trails this afternoon. Conditions were quite good. Tracks are very firm and powdery. The Chalet was open from 11AM until 4 PM. And it will have those weekend hours all season. On weekdays the Chalet will be open from 5 to 8 PM everyday (M-F). It is a very accommodating Chalet with coffee, hot cocoa and other hot drinks. Lots of room inside and with a (gas) fireplace. Nice place.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Full coverage. Classic track set on most of the trail but washed out in places. Deck is hard and fast with many hummocky sections. Good balance workout and could use 4" of snow to freshen up.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Terrific morning for my first ski at Lester in several years. Skated two full loops around 10am. Used rock skis, but B skis will be fine if you're careful. Skate deck was well packed with grass showing through in places. Classic track was set, sometimes on both sides, with grass/dirt showing regularly. Lester would benefit from another 6" snowfall, but I was surprised to not see more people out. I'll be back Saturday morning.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Lester Park has been groomed. Good classic track with occasional thin areas. All trails groomed. Conditions are good. Just over 2" base on all trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Lights are on at Lester as of tonight! Coverage pretty good, some roots to avoid, but pretty navigable. Just need a bit more snow to help even everything out. There's a very shallow classic track but probably better for skating at this point. Some bumps in the low spots at bottom of hills but nothing too bad. I did not attempt J loop, however.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Took the kids out tonight. Unfortunately the lights were not on and we only have one dim headlamp but we still had a lot of fun. The tracks for classic were hit and miss - lots of places they were completely gone. Still, we had a lot of laughs and a great time. Good to be back out.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skate skied the main trail and D loop. Conditions were good, with 100% snow coverage, though some areas with undulations. Mostly smooth sailing. Rare tiny areas of dirt.... didn't see any rocks but coverage on the thin side and the "skied in " classic tracks on the side were shallow and disappeared often. Thanks to Steve Harrington (? others) for trail clearing of trees/branches. It's great to be skiing at Lester again!

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Trails rolled, need more snow for tracking. Good workout. No lights though. I was headlamp night skiing - most of trails, went to back forty. Great to be out again in the snow - refreshing!

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Ran over to Lester after work with some rock skis and my kid, not expecting any grooming. They'd rolled the trails. Skied the C loop minus the playground. I had classic skis, no track yet, lots of sliding around but I was prepared for that. Saw a couple of people out skating. Trail is still pretty uneven, especially the bottom half and the top part we skied was soft. Lights not on yet and we didn't go above C.

Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
It looked like they packed the upper loops of Lester Park today. It did not look skiable but it's a start.
