Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Terrific spring skiing. The trail was groomed Thursday. It was 31 when we got there, 42 when we finished up, so conditions were variable, but it was not icy. We skipped the J loop because there were a couple of bare spots opening up there yesterday, but the rest of the trail still has lots of snow. There are three puddles you can't ski around: just before, during and just after the I loop. Tracks were still solid and deep as of this morning.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Classic skied the upper loops, as far down as B. Skipped J. There is still a ton of snow and the track is holding up remarkably well. The skate lane looked good, kind of melted back into smoothness, and looked like it would be very fun if the temperature was right. The puddles on and after the I loop were ice when we skied today, impossible to ski around.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Very good spring skiing. Some debris is emerging as the snow recedes. There are a couple of sizeable puddles, one on the I loop (stay to the right as you reach the bottom of the hill) and one right after the I loop rejoins the main trail.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Lester Park has been cleared of trees and debri and has been groomed. Grooming went well and we were able break through the top layer of crust and mix in some deeper snow making for a good ski surface. Should be some great spring skiing this week as temps stay on the cooler side.

What a difference a day and a pass from the groomer makes. Current conditions: fresh cord, lots of snow, ridiculously great. We came over with rock skis and leaf rakes, thinking we'd help clean up some of the twigs. Instead, discovered it was already pretty golden. Hockey rink loop is closed because the downhill is bare.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Stay home. Plenty of snow, though it's refrozen hard and rocket fast. The real issue is that with today's gale winds there are hundreds of branches down in the trail, and at least one tree. If it gets regroomed this year, it'll probably have to be after people come out to clear the brush.

The trails were freshly groomed. I had a lot of fun skiing. It was a beautiful day. The tracks were in a very good condition.

Beautifully groomed flat trail with a deep track. As of noon the trail was not breaking down and had a nice powdery corduroy track.
