Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 11 to 20 of 40    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Thursday, February 9, 2017
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Fox Hill Nordic is hanging onto winter with dear life (like the apple pictured). There is about 1.5 miles of scarified skate deck in the upper fields and corkscrew which is rather decent. I felt safe and steady throughout but it was fast. A rogue skier skated through the slush probably late on Tuesday rutting up some areas. Jerry did a nice job making it all navigable. Worth the trip but I would advise B-skis. I attached a picture of what's open for those familiar with trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
The upper fields were generally good. Some ruts from a skier out in too soft conditions with some ice and debris. Do not go into the woods. Very icy downhills. I needed to take my skis off and walk along side the trails to get down safely in several areas.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Groomed upper fields, good overall, corkscrew groomed, some icy spots and some ruts. About a mile and a half of good skiing.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
After three laps around the classic trails, I decided they were in fabulous shape (only a few very short thin spots). The entire trail system groomed today--skate deck is firm and fast throughout. Great mid-season skiing at the Fox.

Firsthand: Both Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Beautiful ski on both classic and skate skis this morning. Trails are 100% open and freshly groomed this morning. Conditions are excellent and firm throughout. Skied the skate lanes first then Skied the classic tracks on the upper and lower fields. Tracks are in very nice shape. Groomer was out this morning and did the whole thing a couple of times.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
A light fairy dusting of snow over an impeccably manicured skate deck made for near perfect conditions for skating this morning at FHN. There is 100% coverage throughout and the wooded hills/loops are safe. There is a classic track set on most of the non-wooded areas. Thank you, Jerry!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skate deck is soft and slow but freshly groomed with just a few manageable icy spots. There is a serviceable classic track in the open areas but nothing in the woods. At 20 minutes from the NW side, Fox Hills is the closest non-glacier skiing to Milwaukee. Well worth the $8 daily pass and a few hours playing hookey from work.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skate lanes were regroomed this evening and appear to be in very good condition. Classic tracks were set this morning but I would recommend waxless skis as there is ice and grass showing through in some spots.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fox Hill is in very good condition throughout for skating. The skate deck has plenty of snow but will be a little soft until the new snow gets skied in and packed down. Colder overnight temps will also help. No track was set as of 4pm Friday, but Jerry was still grooming when I left. Thank you Jerry.

Grooming

Groomed yesterday, full coverage, no classic track, will regroomed this morning.
Sorry my report is "a bit short" but I tend to be more of a doer, than a talker.
