[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied here for the first time yesterday and again today. I've been skiing for over forty years and somehow never found this jewel! We found the coverage to be very good, I think better than southern kettles. Got in a great skating 20 k workout on great coverage. Jerry, the main groomer, told us to spread the word on this place and I'm giving this place an A for trail layout and I will be back to ski here when there is a few more inches of snow because it is not as long of drive as Greenbush but a great hill workout. The upper west and east loops were a bit dicey but the lower portion was fun and fast. If you are looking for a good workout try this place, you will be very surprised at the conditions. Hope I find a parking spot after this report!

Conditions remain very good at FHN for skating. Jerry recently scarified again. Fast yet stable. Fellow skier, Jon, ventured into the west loop and reported 100% coverage. More snow would open everything back up. Parking lot was full.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Fox Hill was groomed this morning and conditions are very good. Approximately 2/3 of the trails are open (about 6km): Upper and lower fields, lower prairie, Truck Lane, the Corkscrew and the connector trails are great for skating. No classic tracks set. West woods loops, Fox Loop, and the lower marsh loop are still closed. Best skied from the parking area on Sleeping Dragon Road.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The bulletproof base at Fox Hill has been aggressively scarified leaving a sugary top coat which provides some excellent purchase and allowed me to feel in control the entire time. I stayed out of the woods but the upper fields and prairie were in above average condition. B-skis if you have them, but I would still feel comfortable using my good skis. Classic tracks are there but inconsistent until we get some more snow. Thank you Jerry!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied about half the trail system this afternoon in 36 degree temps. About half the trails (mostly the open fields and connector trails have been groomed with a nice smooth skate deck. Use B skis if you have them--there is debris mixed in with the snow, especially in the woods. However, no rocks and, with one exception, total coverage throughout. You won't hurt your good skis if that's all you have. Good to very good skating where it was groomed. West loops were swept today but not groomed, probably best to stay away until we can get that cleaned up. Lower/Prairie loops were great!
No classic tracks.

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Amazingly, Fox Hill provides good skating. Jerry managed to scarify the ice and create fast but controllable conditions on most of the prairie trails. The wooded trails are not groomed. No new classic track could be set so striding is best on the skate deck. There are couple of icy spots so this is not for beginners. If you haven't been to FH for awhile, the parking lot is now off of Sleeping Dragon Road. There is Port A Potty there. Everyone is welcome, but please pay the daily trail fee. Also, there are no rocks so you could actually use good skis.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skied most of the system this Christmas afternoon with surprisingly good conditions. Moist snow called for more structure than I had on but the skate deck was in very good condition. Finished just minutes before the rain started. Please stay off the trails until at least it cools off on Tuesday! Help preserve the excellent Fox Hill microclimate base until the short warm spell passes.

Santa brought 4" of high moisture snow to Fox Hill! Freshly groomed this morning for skating. West loop trails, half of the upper fields, and the lower prairie are groomed, mostly with one pass of the Tidd-Tech. Skating is great with good, soft glide with the fresh stuff on top of the firm base. Beautiful with the fresh snow hanging on the trees.
Classic tracks are there hiding under the fresh snow on the side.
