2015-2016 season
Reports 19 to 28 of 156    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Extreme hardpack. Ice skates might have worked better than skate skis. A fair number of ski ruts frozen into the surface. Challenging conditions as a whole, but at least there's still plenty of coverage.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Manufactured snow trails: The 5K Loop is open: Star Loop, Willow Creek, Frog Town, Scenic Foothills and Boulder Ridge XC ski trails are packed, tracked and amazingly in good condition for both classic and skating during the first half of the day; downgrading to fair the last half of the day. Natural snow trails are closed.
The Groomer Magician's miraculously were able to re-groom and brought the conditions back to good. Amazing!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fast, but beginning to become sugary by mid-morning.
Skied from about 9:30-11:00 this morning. It was beautiful and sunny, and the man-made loop was firm and fast. However, towards the end, the uphills began to deteriorate and become powdery, and the section of the star loop coming into the chalet was beginning to melt/turn slushy.

Rocket fast this early morning! No ice! The whole 5k loop was in excellent shape. I was able to average 2:50 per KM for 21K which is a first for me this season. Front parking lot full at 6:30am. Thanks to the Hyland crew for producing such fantastic morning skiing each and every day. Lots of happy skiers out there!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Very good at 11:30am, getting soft and sugary after an hour.
I hit the sweet spot between what was probably wicked fast in the early morning hours and mushy and slow after noon. Uphills were getting sugary with lots of ruts. Some stretches were awesome, like midwinter skiing, some were getting soft and rutty. But it was so good to be out in the sun and replenish energy.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Like skiing on a snow cone at the state fair without the food coloring.
Classic skied in late afternoon. Slush and mush.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Surprisingly fast for skating at 4:30 pm tonight.
The uphills were mushy (good for training effort) but the flats and downhills were surprisingly fast. I skied three laps on the whole 5k manufactured snow loop. The big downhill near Hyland Hills downhill area wasn't icy as I feared it might be. Just got back from Hawaii this afternoon, I wanted to make sure to get out before the snow is gone, and it was a lot of fun! Get out there while you can!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Mash potatoes and sugar in the afternoon.
I got out at 4pm and skied the man-made loop. The hills were an interesting mix of mush and sugar. The flats were in okay shape though. I have a feeling the remainder of these warm days are going to be a Jekyll/Hyde of great skiing in the morning and sketchy skiing in the afternoon.
