Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 89 to 98 of 156    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Great conditions for a last ski of 2015.
The manmade loop was in excellent condition. They had the guns blazing at the practice area and at the scenic foothills. Skied Oak Knob - packed but not tracked - I'd assume that to be the case all over. Good snow coverage - few thin areas easily avoided - looked to be people on the lake or hill trails. Hoping Boulder Ridge gets opened soon.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Excellent on mad-made, and good on natural around 1pm.
The 3k of man-made continues to be in excellent shape. The fresh snow helped the few dirty spots, and only a handful of small frozen dirt chunks remain. I'd still recommend using A- skis if you have them. North and Nature Center Trails were rolled and packed and in surprisingly good condition. I definitely wouldn't use race skis, but if you're careful in daylight A- skis could be used. Spotted a few rocks, a thin trail crossing, and a man-hole cover that could be problematic with a little more traffic. Very easily avoidable if you're on the lookout though.

Perfect conditions on the 3.2k manmade loop this morning! Groomers and snow guns are hard at work on Boulder Ridge... Looking great out there! Thanks to the groomers for the great work!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Firm, consistent. Both skate and classic looked good this morning.
The crew did a nice job firming up the soft conditions from yesterday's snow. Tried the Lake loop as well - overall not bad given the thin cover. Some sticks, leaves, and grass in the woods, much better around by the picnic areas. No nick or scratches on the skis. The snow guns were all up on the ridge trail this morning, hoping that's a sign we'll see more trail open soon.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good, firm skate deck and tracks on manmade loops. Fair on natural snow trails; great coverage but very soft.
Skied Oak Knob and North Trail for the first time this year. Surprisingly good coverage with corduroy and a very small bit of dirt or debris. Trails were still pretty uneven in places with shallow snowpack, and soft on the sides. Perfect corduroy though! With more grooming and time to pack down, the natural trails will be skiing quite well. Manmade loops skied great as always, and they are making lots of snow to open soon up to Boulder Ridge!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good. Two or three slightly dirty spots.
Hyland is a lifesaver, such a gem. Overall good. Very crowded and a few dirty spots with frozen dirt chunks are the only downsides. Made some deposits at the karma bank by starting to pick up a chunk or two every time I passed. Got a decent scratch off one of them despite that. A simple reminder to all ages of skiers to stay right if not passing would probably make it feel less crowded.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Hard packed with a loose layer of fresh snow to top it off.
Busy is an understatement. Lots of families out testing new gear. Hyland had guns blazing new snow on the north loop. Trail was in great shape. The frog pond was a needed addition. Some areas of congestion but overall nice skiing at 2pm.
