[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It was a gorgeous morning with the sun shining and no wind! I skate skied the brown, green, yellow, and orange trails this morning, all of which were icy. Not perfect conditions, but still a great outing. The icy top made for slipping skis and fast downhills.

Conditions good overall, with excellent coverage throughout, although getting rutted. Calling the park this morning, I was told snow is too thin for grooming. So be careful skiing early, when still frozen!

Eagle Point was excellent. Recently groomed. Sunny, 45 degrees. I used FastWax Yellow LF. I was pleasantly surprised to find the trail in great shape and surprisingly fast despite the temperature. The most sun-exposed portions of the trail were wet and slower. But much of trail was still frozen and gave me enough momentum to get thru the wet, slower sections without much of a speed loss. Unlike recently, the northern ridge was not icy nor bare except for one small spot. It made me appreciate the trees that border the trail on its south and western sides along much of its length protecting it from the sun. Ended up skiing the 3.7 mile trail in less than 30 minutes, as fast as I have skied the trail anytime this year.

Ski trails on the west side of the park were groomed this afternoon. Trails have good coverage and the snow is soft.

Exquisite is the perfect adjective to describe the trail conditions this morning. In thirty plus years of skiing at the park, I have never seen anything this good for both skate and classic. My wife and I classic skied all of the lighted trails. The tracks were straight and perfect. The skate deck appeared to be just as good. The Pisten Bully was actually out grooming while we were skiing. As a long time Birkie groomer, I can say any groomer would be proud of this work. Definitely Birkie trail quality. Maybe he could consider being a little less conservative with the lifting of the tracks on the hills. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomers are out on the trails this morning. The green loop got chewed up due to a rescue on the trail Sunday. The entire East side has been groomed and trails look great.

Skied classic under the lights around 7 last night. Classic skiing was good. To corroborate the earlier report the skate deck was damaged as someone drove a vehicle on almost every portion of the lighted trail. It's sketchy for skating especially on the downhills and would recommend to verify this has been rectified prior to make the trip. Plenty of snow at Lake Elmo.

Tracks were good but the skate deck on Brown's Pond and most of Lake Elmo Trail was deeply rutted with tire tracks. It isn't worth skating there until they can fix the damage.

Thanks to the grooming staff for getting out early this morning after the snowfall. At 8:30am, about half of the east side trails were groomed for skate and classic and the piston bully was working to complete the grooming. It was one of those days I will remember. The snow was hanging in the trees, the sun was shining, and the kick waxing was easy.
