Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skated at Lake Elmo around 10:30 this morning, trails are in good condition with excellent coverage. Skate deck is generally very good, with a few soft spots and a couple ridges in the middle of the trail. Classic tracks looked well set and with good coverage. Ski your good skis.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Lake Elmo ski trails were groomed today. The trails on the east side were groomed for both skate and classic cross country skiing this morning. The ski trails on the west side were groomed and tracked this afternoon. Trails look beautiful!

Picture perfect day today, but the fresh new snow made for a bit of a slow ski. Better to have taken the classical skis. At any rate, fantastic conditions! I coasted to a stop going down the green hill to the trail center. That is a first for me; one usually has to come to hockey stop at the base of that hill. I looked back and saw that it was April of 2013 when I attended a Jessie Diggins Welcome Home event. I suspect this year's event will be slightly bigger. Way to go Jessie!

Skied just about everything last night in the dark with no headlamp. It was amazing perfect fresh snow skating conditions. Thank you Lake Elmo Groomers for such a nice flat skate deck!

Eagle Point was good to very good before the snowfall. It was crusty and it was icy on the north ridge. It was around 28 degrees and partly sunny. I used FastWax Salmon LF. I did the 3.7 miles at a 7.75 mph pace.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Trails fast, firm, and fun! Great coverage with the fresh snow and the trails have set up well with the cooler temps. The classic track, all skier made, was a bit shallow and pushed put in areas, but the great glide and speed more than made up for it. Skied Oak Bur and Eagle Point loops and both in good shape. The skate deck was firm and well groomed, as usual.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The yellow and orange ski trails on the east side of Lake Elmo have been rolled. Groomers say the base is too thin to set track as of right now until we receive more snow.

Eagle Point was very good. Recently groomed but soft particularly on the north and east ends. The top of the north ridge was icy. It was 20 degrees with a cold west wind. I used FastWax Salmon LF. First time on my new Salomon's even though wax might have been a little to warm. Nice to upgrade from my old heavier Rossis to lighter skis. I did the 3.8 miles at a 7.5 mph pace.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Ski trails in Lake Elmo are being groomed today. The east side ski trails have been rolled with fresh corduroy. The west side ski trails are currently being rolled and fresh corduroy is being set. The classic track is not being re-set until later in the week due to snow coverage. Those skate skiing on the trails have said it was good on the skate deck and those classic skiing are having to set their own track.

It was a ghost town when I arrived at 11:00 so expectations low. I was breaking trail but pleasantly surprised with good classic conditions. The wind is blowing fresh snow I to the track and good glide and could climb hills w good control. Skate deck was getting fresh snow coverage but icy in open areas. Did Browns Pond trail and all outer trails around the chalet. Should only improve with snow falling at a good clip now.
