Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Fantastic grooming. Beautiful fresh untracked corduroy. I skied Abbey Road and Northern lights. But it looked like everything was groomed and beautiful.

Day 2 in a row of Birkie training. This time on natural snow. Classic skied about 30 km of hill climbs and downhill glides. Freshly groomed combi trails had deep semi firm tracks and medium firm skate deck. Very controlled and enjoyable. Snow had a bit of a sticky glide. Overall, a phenomenal ski! You need to come ski here! There's an abundance of natural snow and excellent grooming.

Excellent conditions at Mt Ashwabay today. All the skate trails had been freshly groomed after the recent 2-3" snowfall. Totally worth the drive. We raced here yesterday and the race was super fun and well organized. Thank you groomers and race organizers for a wonderful weekend!

All combined classic / skate trails were either rolled, tracked or combed. Exceptionally good results. The 3" of new snow puts a fresh face on everything and the oak leaves are mostly buried! Kudos to the Summit Race groomers!

Another wonderful day at Mt. Ashwabay! We skied Abbey Road to the cabin, around the back of the mountain to the intersection with Deer Path and then turned around (by this time it was snowing pretty good). On the way back, we took a detour to finish up on Skid Road and Jolly Long back to the TH. Great conditions, the tracks were really good, skate deck was the perfect combination of fast and controllable. Thank you!

Skated much of the central trail system freshly groomed this morning and some perimeter trails that had not been groomed for a few days. The fresh groomed trails looked a little clumpy but skied great. The ones not freshly groomed were well used and firm. Downhills were fast. The classic tracks weren't perfect looking but also skied great where I was using them for glide, and classic skiers I spoke with agreed. Some oak leaves noted here and there but fewer than a couple of days ago. Really nice skiing on a beautiful day!
