Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

Skate lanes only were groomed on Anchor and Seagull, and also the skate lane on Abbey from the trailhead to Summit. Grooming created an excellent surface that as a crumbly texture on the surface.

Wonderful weekend skiing at Mt Ashwabay. Plenty of snow, even a little new snow on Saturday that wasn't predicted but that's lake effect. Well worth our 4 hour drive from the Twin Cities! We're lucky to have the manufactured snow trails locally but it sure was nice to get on the real stuff. The Summit ski race is here next weekend, unfortunately we can't go, but highly recommend from previous participation. It's a fun race, well supported by the local volunteers, and where else can you win a homemade pie by winning your age group?

What a difference skiing on natural snow is compared to man made at Hyland. Trails were well set in most places. There was fresh snow coming down at times but that didn't seem to impact the conditions.

These may be some of the best trails I've ever been on. They have a definite old school vibe to them, especially the trails we took. We classic skied Deer Path and Sugar Bush plus some of the connector trails. All were groomed to perfection. We did not skate, but the skate surface looked just as good. Well over a foot of snow.
